Tour Records Shattered!

Tradition Thrown Into the Wind

11/28/2009

Galesburg, MI. - 9:00 a.m. It is a lonely spot at the old Galesburg High School. Brewman waited patiently for other Minions to rise to the occasion and ride the last official ride. As it ticked to one minute past nine, Brewman alone clipped in and began the historical ride. Brewman quickly picked up the pace and was a blur as he passed the Klutch. Luann was not sure who the lone rider was but gasped at the speedster as she has never seen a bike go so fast.

The Brewman was on fire and set a record pace taking one sprint after another (except the very first where he felt the spirit of the Sharkman swoosh past him). After a monster pace up the col de Twin Lakes the Brewman met up with another hearty Minion, Knute a.k.a. Knute. The two mighty Minions battled back and forth over the remaining course with many of the sprints too close to call.

The word spread quickly about the intense record breaking pace. Crowds started to gather to observe the grueling duel and historic event. Cheers swelled and the crowds increased to see the final sprint of the season. Down to the wire at 40 plus M.P.H. the Brewman and Knute a.k.a. Knute battled back and forth. Smoke was billowing from their churning tires even in the sub 40 temperatures. It was neck and neck to the finish………too close to call. Both gladiator riders were awarded first and second….and third!

Knute and Brewman acknowledged each other with respect as Knute turned around at the new High School and peddled for home. The duet completed the course in record time, averaging 29 M.P.H., unbelievable (yes, really unbelievable)! The Brewman pedaled down the (whatever) and paused at the Klutch – yes only paused. Brewman threw tradition into the wind as he recognized that this ride’s accomplishment deserved celebration on another level. This day was the official tapping of a colorbative beer between Bells and a Belgian brewery, brewed in Belgium using some Michigan ingredients, including cherries. Yes, the Brewman headed to Bells and celebrated in Brewman style.

Krazy Kriss Kross!

11/29/09

Grand Rapids, Mi. - Three hearty Minions met up in Holland Michigan for the finale Kriss Kross event. Were they crazy, Heck yes! Rain, 40 degrees and mud, mud, mud and mud. Never seen so much mud. Brewman, Bissell Boy and Iceman all competed in the mud bowl riding into the muddy spiral of death, running up the bleacher stairs and through the deep muddy paths and all to do it 5 more times!

The Minion’s bikes were packed full of mud and it was hard to recognize the person under all the mud. Iceman lost his brakes and catapulted down a steep hill crashing into a fence. Lucky he was a Minion and the fence was damaged more than the Iceman. Bissell Boy will most likely have to retire this Bissell Kit as it looked like it took on a permanent mud color.

A fun event and a great way to wind down the cycling season. All three of these Mighty Minions are already looking forward to the next Kross season.

Thanksgiving Tour of New Mexico!

Sharkman Takes Santa Fe by Storm!

Belo News
Santa Fe, N.M.

Santa Fe, N.M. – Happy Thanksgiving, Minions!

In an exclusive investigative report, the answer to "where is Sharkman?" has finally been answered!

Through undisclosed cycling sources, the Update has learned that Sharkman has been testing Mountain Bikes in Northern New Mexico! In these never before seen photographs, we see the Sharkman with Outside Executive Editor Sam Moutlton (also Sharkman's son-in-law and former Celebrity Rider) and former Outside Senior Editor and current Road and Mountain Bike Test Director, John Bradley.

The weather was drop dead gorgeous as the Western Chapter of the Mighty Minion Nation headed out to the Dale Ball Trails, which lay in the foothills of the mountain just outside Santa Fe.

Along with the Scott carbon fiber steed, Sharkman was also testing a Pro-Tec helmet, Bontrager shoes, along with a Pearl Izumi jacket, bib shorts, gloves and jersey, all of which he gets to keep! Is this a great Country or what?

After a long climb from town to the trail head, the riders were greeted by some of the greatest switch back single track west of the Mississippi!

Our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, had no problem handling the rugged terrain as well as the high altitude. Absorbing tips from the two Outside Editors like Wolf King absorbs Micro Brews, the Shark barrelled up the long ascent. Once the mountain was crested, the ride back down into town was nothing short of the Mad Hatter Ride at the County Fair! Fast, twisty and full of fun! Sharkman got the bike so far off the trail you could slide a credit card under his tires!

Sharkman reported that he found the Scott Carbon Fiber gave him a very compliant ride and was fantastic in handling the rocky single track. The Shimano drive train was smooth and light to the touch. The Schwabe tires had fantastic grip and all of this amounted to one sweet ride!

The Pearl Izumi was not only extremely functional, but man, did Sharkman look good! And we all know his credo, "If you can't be good....look good!" And Pearl Izumi delivers!

John Bradley was also riding a Scott Carbon Fiber (which, you techies will want to know, was bedecked with Sram's new mountain bike grupo, XX), while Sam was mounted on his trusty Gary Fischer.

Bradley stated, "it was an honor to become a Minion and ride with the Sharkman!" You just can't make this stuff up!

Sharkman was quoted as saying it was a fantastic ride and that he couldn't wait for more riding over the weekend!

What a way to spend Thanksgiving Weekend!

To all the Minions and their families, a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Unofficial Last Ride of the Season?

Bissell Boy gone fishin'

"Hot Damn"

Luke Skywalker rules

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
November 21, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. - As the riders assembled, wondering if their fearless leader would bring back good news from our nation’s capitol, Speedy offered his flask to the Minion Nation. “Hot Damn” was heard coming from Chumley’s mouth as he warmed his motor with a shot from the flask. (Thinking of our nation’s capitol makes the author want to drink these days). Is this a great nation or what?

Led out by All Black, ten riders started the unofficial “last ride” of the season, without our fearless leader. Rounding KK Korner we acquired Wildman sporting his Tour of Missouri kit and as we started up 36th Street Gazelle Girl and Dr. Dave joined the peloton making it 13!

Falcon led the Sharkman out for the honorary first sprint and off the pack went toward the rabid dogs encountered much of the late season racing. Danimal had his dog spray in hand as we rounded the bend but alas there were no dogs. Zickman took off like a rocket with Falcon in pursuit to take the 35th St. sprint; Falcon was not to be denied as he took the Col de Twin Lakes climb in decisive fashion. As we moved toward DE Ave. we were joined by Knute aka Knute and the sprint went uncontested.

As the pace was set down by the famous Miller Men (Luke Skywalker and Oil Man) the group stayed together through the “Pain Cave” until a gap was made by the Zickman, with Bissell Boy on his wheel. The M43 sprint was a photo finish awarded to the whyly Zickster. The group waited a considerable amount of time at the M43 stop when it was discovered Chumley and Speedy were off the back nipping the Hot Damn. It was explained later they were fixing a flat and releasing several canisters of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Falcon owned Col de Norte and was awarded the KOM jersey for the day and the peloton charged south. As we sped by the Bible Conference Oil Man was moved from above and with a quick tap of Falcon’s elbow he flew by to take the Frona’s sprint. Not to be out done Falcon was redeemed by taking the Bay sprint.

As the Minions moved down 37th street they had a hard time organizing a pace line but Gazelle Girl was awarded the G Ave sprint as the Zickman was DQ’d for undisclosed reasons.

In the final effort Luke Skywalker ruled the day taking the win on his new Pinarello, followed by Knute and Wildman.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Minion Nation and for those of you looking for a way to work off your turkey feast the last Kiss Cross race of the year is Sunday in Holland.

Ed. Note: It is rumored Sharkman may have signed with a new team for next season and started his training at a secret location in New Mexico while Bissell Boy warms up for the Bass Pro tournament season fly fishing for the famous Steelhead trout somewhere in northern Michigan.

Retro Day or Last Day?

Wolf King pulls off another win!

Bissell Boy Makes History!

Last Minion Ride of the Year, or was it?

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
November 14, 2009

Galesburg, Mi.
– One more week! One more week!

It was a refrain that was heard most of Saturday morning as 13 Minions showed up to ride what might have been the last “official” Minion ride of the 2009 season.

Another fantastic weather morning greeted our intrepid hero’s as they began unloading their steeds, as well as their extra cloths. The temp was around 52 degrees at launch time and as you can see from the photo, Hossman was in retro gear at the start. Apparently his regular helmet was run over by the car. An attempt on his part to see if this was covered in the warranty revealed that Fischer Price would only replace the helmet if his head was in said helmet at the time of the accident. So, Hossman got an Igloo Cooler for a helmet. Hossman was so excited to show everyone the solid Styrofoam interior that he took it off to reveal chew marks on the Styrofoam, to which everyone was afraid to ask what that was all about. To round out his cycling attire, he was wearing a cotton long sleeve T under his Tony Jersey along with his high school wrestling sweat pants!

The start was delayed as Wolf King made several attempts to take a photo of the group. The Update is not sure if the photo came out or not because he didn’t send it to the Update BEFORE press time!

In addition to Hossman, those in attendance on this glorious morning included Bissell Boy, Sharkman and All Black in their Team Bissell kit, Just Jerry, Stroker and Hoosier Boy were back, Wolf King, Dutch, Kid Doster, Rainman, and Danimal after his appearance at the Iceman with H1N1 (What a stud!), and Gazelle Girl showed up on the way out of town. And then they were 13, a new record for late season attendance!

Our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, was led out, or should we say inspired, for the first sprint by Wolf King. Sharkman had a hard time catching on to the streaking Wolf Kings wheel, but in deference to the “Patron of the Peloton,” WK pulled off to give Sharkman the honorary stop ahead.

For the second week in a row, the Bissell Boys were at the front along with Wolf King when our new Labrador quadruped friends decided to run out to greet us. After a great deal of barking, shouting and copious amounts of water squirted from water bottles, our two new friends retreated in hopes of getting the Minions next week. However, it sure screwed up the ensuing sprint, which was sort of given to Wolf King.

The Mighty Minion nation continued through the col de Twin lakes and Kellogg Korner, when Kid Doster threw in a humongous pull before Sharkman took over. As they made the turn to head for the Rt. 43 sprint, Zickman appeared with his entourage going in the opposite direction doing his yearly run around the lake! (No, we don’t know why he does that….).

With Sharkman at the front, Wolf King made an early move, to which Bissell Boy, cutting a fine figure on his Pinarello, responded and took the Rt. 43 sprint for the second week in a row!

As the Mighty Minion Nation headed south after the climb up the col de Norte, they were greeted by a warm, but stiff head wind. Try as they might, the Minions didn’t seem to want to play together and a pace line never really formed up. The sprinters went early on the Bible Conference Hills, where Rainman went out to take the C Ave. sprint going away.

All Black and Wolf King fought it out alone for the Inlet Sprint, with Wolf King edging out the wily All Black.

As is the norm, the peloton grouped up at the Rt. 89 crossing and quickly formed up a double pace line at Sharkman insistence. As they moved south, Gazelle Girl complained that since the wind was out of the southwest, the peloton was rotating in the wrong direction. Gazelle Girl was actually able to get this crew of pace line challenged riders to reverse the direction of rotation in mid-pace line! An incredible feat of nature! Go Girl!

This was just a bit of the Gazelle Girl magic, as she worked the rotation to her benefit. As the Mighty Minion Nation headed toward the G Ave. sprint, Gazelle Girl took over and swept the sprint up like, well….a Gazelle! Just like the early season, Gazelle Girl OWNS the G Ave. sprint!

As our Minions headed south to the finish, Sharkman, Hossman and Stroker took up the early lead out. No one wanted to play in the pace line and so the Minions just let the three lead out. Sharkman later stated that as they approached the final hill to the finish he looked in his mirror and saw hordes of Minions descending on his wheel like a “Plague of Locust!”

As the school of sharks reached the final hill, Stroker made a move and immediately realized he had moved to soon and after findingt himself at the front alone was heard to say, “I’m screwed……”

It was then that Rainman made a huge jump to the front and as he ramped up the speed with a shift to the big gear, his chain skipped and Wolf King, Bissell Boy, Dutch and others saw there chance to jump as he lost momentum. It was pretty obvious that had Rainman not experienced the miss shift; he would have been very hard to catch.

In one of the closer sprint finishes of the year, with all 13 Minions in the mix, Wolf King edged out Bissell Boy while Dutch filled out the final podium spot!

It was Bissell Boy’s first podium finish and the crowds went wild as he coasted in on his carbon steed!

With the great weather, the fans were lined 4 to 5 deep along the Champs le Galesburg as the Minions zipped up their jerseys for the sponsors.

The Klutch was rocking when the Minions appeared for the press conference and the paparazzi lined up to talk to Bissell Boy on his late season form.

The major talk centered on what a great season it has been and that no one wanted the season to end. Immediately, the shouts of “One more week, one more week!” were heard through out the Klutch.

So, the Minions will ride another week! It might be without the Sharkman, but there will be a ride for anyone who shows!

Launch Time – 9:00 A.M. – SHARP!

Be there for the final edition!

Sooner a Celebrity Rider?

Wolf King Wins A Close One!

Last Minion Ride of the Year This Week!

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
November 7, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – It is now official. The National Weather Service has declared October the wettest, coldest October…..ON RECORD! And the Minions can attest to that. But what a change November has been. Saturday morning was drop dead gorgeous for the Might Minion Nation and this Saturday is looking good for the last ride of the year!

Ten Minions showed to ride and immediately began peeling the extra cloths off as they exited there cars in the parking lot to get their steeds ready.

Sooner was back for the first time since before Labor Day and immediately asked for “Celebrity Rider” status, which was abruptly denied by the Sharkman. Wolf King, Bissell Boy, All Black, Wildman, Dutch and Hossman filled out the regular Minion roster, while a new Minion was welcomed to the peloton.

A big welcome to Tom, who came with Wildman and was immediately named Coffeeman for his ability to actually roast his own coffee beans! You gotta love a biker who roasts his own beans!

Welcome Coffeeman!

The sun was shining and everyone was complaining about not being on the bike in a while and being out of shape as the sound of pedals clicking in rang around the parking lot. As the peloton moved north, they made the old Sharkman work to take the honorary first sprint of the morning. For a bunch of riders claiming to be out of shape, the ride ended up being pretty quick for this late in the season.

After a minor dog attack after the G Ave. crossing, it looked like an all Team Bissell attack on the second sprint of the morning, with All Black, in his Bissell Kit edging out Bissell Boy for the second sprint. It might have also been the dogs coming after the two on their way to the stop ahead sign. Bissell Boy and All Black were on fire on this fine day!

As the Minion Nation moved towards the col de Twin lakes, they were joined by Knute, AKA Knute, and the peloton was now 10!

The speed picked up through the Country club section with Sharkman pulling the group through Kellogg Korner, where Bissell Boy took over through the Country Club. Bissell Boy threw in a humongous pull until Sharkman took over and led out the lean, mean Bissell Boy to take the Rt. 43 sprint easily.

The group stayed together on the east side of the lake after Wolf King made an early attack on the col de Norte, only to be sucked in before the summit by the entire peloton. As the Nation moved south, Wolf King knocked off the C Ave. sprint while All Black, who was required to take a drug test after the race due to his unexpected energy level, took the Inlet sprint.

After the Rt. 89 crossing, and as the south wind picked up, the peloton formed up into one of the better working pace lines of the season. The line worked so well that the C Ave. Sprint was not really contested as everyone was saving something for the final sprint.

After the G Ave. crossing, the pace line picked up again but as Sharkman and Hossman took over, they opened a small gap and it took a while for the peloton to pull through. As the mighty Minion Nation crested the final hill the descent to the finish.

No one seemed to want to move too quickly, too early, keeping the peloton closely packed (where is Bullet Bob when you need him?!) as they moved closer to the finish. It was then that Wolf King, Knute, Dutch, Wildman and Bissell Boy began to accelerate with a cast of thousands on their wheels.

In a close finish, Wolf King took the top spot with Knute and Dutch filling out the podium with Wildman a very close fourth.

The fans went wild on the Champs le Galesburg and into the Klutch, where everyone gathered for the post race press conference and Koffee.

It was decided during the post race festivities that this coming weekend, November 14, 2009 would be the final end of the Official Minion Season, and what a season it has been! Starting the second weekend in March and going until the second weekend in November with very few rain or snow outs, has been outstanding and it has truly been a great season.

You won’t want to miss the last ride of the year as it is predicted to be around 60 again this Saturday.

Launch Time 9:00 A.M. – SHARP!

Who Showed and Who Rode!

Seven Minions Showed in the Rain!

Do Minions Start in the Rain?

Sharkman's New Jersey!

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
October 31, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – Hard to believe, but seven crazy Minions showed up to ride on Saturday!
When everyone left their respective Shark Cove beds, the roads were dry and riding looked like a distinct possiblity. Unfortunately, on the way to the start, Mother Nature again decided to rain on the Mighty Minion Nation's parade around their Field of Dreams called, the KK-TdG. After such a great season, it has been a sad state of affairs the past few weeks as the season winds down and so does the rainfall.

As the Sharkman pulled into the parking lot, it didn't take much convincing to get Bissell Boy, Zickman, Brewman, Kid Doster, Hossman and Wolf King to head to the Klutch for Koffee as he talked to the wet Minons from his Shark Car.

Sharkman was particularly upset as he was debuting his new Shark Jersey that a few of the Minions pitched in to buy him for his Birthday. (see photo) Thanks Minions! Bissell Boy and Cloud Girl had the idea for retro jersey with Sharkman stitched on the front and back in red, and Tahitian blue sleeves to match the Shark blue, and deadly eyes of our intrepid hero. Fantastic jersey!

The Koffee was great, as was he discussion. Many will be at the Ice Man this weekend, but others still voted to ride.

The weather is not looking good for this weekend, but if it is dry, launch time will be at
9:00 A.M. - SHARP!

Sharkman Wins!

First Annual Beer and Bike a Success!

Rained Out?

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
October 24, 2009

Galesburg, Mi.
– As everyone in cycling knows, the Update did not get published last week. This was a sad state of affairs, as our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, had actually won the finishing sprint after a major lead out by none other than the Wildman last week! Letters of complaint started pouring in in response to the lack of an Update and we again apologize that you did not receive your cycling news last week.
Even though the ride got rained out last week, there is still plenty to report, so let's get started with the previous weeks finish!

In classic fashion, the Minions headed south on 37th at a comfortable pace, with Sharkman leading out. As the Mighty Minion Nation approached the hill just before the final descent to the finish, Wildman threw out a humongous surge to the front of the peloton and Sharkman immediately glued himself to his wheel.

Unbeknownst to Sharkman, who never looks back because someone is always gaining on him, a gap opened up as Wildman pedaled like, well,….. a Wildman. Sharkman waited in the wake of the tremendous pull until the final moment and then launched his patented shark attack from the back. Wildman claimed later that he had no gas left to respond, and though unsure if it was a lack of gas or the extension of peloton courtesy, the Sharkman was happy to take the win. Dutch and Wolf King both mounted counter attacks but had let the gap open just a bit too much to pull the old shark in. It was a victory for America!

Gazelle Girl bought koffee at the Klutch as all the riders joined in for the festivities!
Yeah, Gazelle Girl!

Sharkman was amazed at the win after having participating in the First (of many, we hope) Annual Beer and Bike Tour on the previous afternoon.

A young rider and aspiring Minion named Calliou, organized this first annual bike and beer ride. Special T Shirts were made up and dates announced. However, the weather on Friday afternoons stopped the ride from taking place for a couple of weeks. Several Minions and many others had committed to ride, but as rainy Friday's hit, the numbers declined.......

However, on Friday, October 16, despite cool weather and the threat of rain, three fearless riders gathered up at Arcadia Brewing for the opening beer. Calliou, Sharkman and Grizz (see photo) launched from Arcadia after the Opening Beer. While Sharkman had enjoyed a Nut Brown brew, Calliou savored a nice IPA, while Grizz sipped a nice Anglers Ale. Now fortified, the group launched at 1:00 P.M. and headed out to the Barking Frog in Augusta. Beer selection was easy at this stop as they still had Oberon on tap! Oberon for everyone!

The ride then moved on to Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo where a van was waiting to return the riders to the start. After some Bell’s brews and pretzels, purchased by ride leader Calliou, Grizz and Sharkman took the van back to the start, while Calliou waited for his family at Bells. Total miles – 27 - total Beers – 3 each - cost of “Drinkstrong” T Shirts - $10 - Experience – Priceless! We hope everyone turns out for the second annual next year! Thanks Calliou for a great day on the road and in the pub!

New Ride Time!

Galesburg, Mi. – Many of the late rising Minions have been complaining that the start time needs to be moved back due to cold and darkness. Puppies!
The Minion Commissioner has apparently knuckled under to the pressure and will move the start time this weekend to 9:00 A.M. – SHARP!

Launch Time – 9:00 A.M. – SHARP!
The weather looks like it will be dry and actually, not too cold.

Wildman Ranch Family Bash is ON!

It looks like the weather will hold out, and the party WILL go on tomorrow as planned!

For those who have not responded, it's not too late! brettmwild@gmail.com

We'll have plenty of everything!

For those who want to ride the pony or horses, a couple of things: First, recognize that you'll be riding at your own risk. Of course we'll do everything we can to make it safe, and we don't envision issues. Second, we plan to ride from 3:30PM to 4:30PM, then give the animals a rest. So, you'll need to be there during that time. If you come after 4:30PM, you'll miss the riding, but on the bright side you'll avoid being asked a hundred times, "when can I ride the pony?"

Dress for warmth, and don't forget your lawn chairs, munchies, and anything besides soda that you want to drink.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Wolf King Returns to the Top!

How cold was it?

Was that Boffo?

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
October 10, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – Everyone in the peloton who had been watching Wolf King regain his form over the closing weeks of the season knew it was only a matter of time when he would reclaim a position at the top of the podium. He answered his critics on Saturday in one of the most tightly contested finishes of the year that went down to the final meters of the ride.

Wolf King started his attack early and though the peloton responded quickly to his move, there was just not enough road left to catch the streaking Wolf.

The morning began cold, as our intrepid hero rolled out of his Shark bed and ran to the Shark Outside/Inside Weather Station to see just how cold it was outside the Cove. A chilly 33 degrees was registered on the station, which always displays a couple of degrees colder than the Weather Channel (Sharks like it cold).

Frost formed on our hero’s arms as he made his way in the dark to the start. Thinking he had to be the only rider crazy enough to be out on a morning this cold, the Sharkman was surprised when he rode into the parking lot in the cool morning air and found several riders waiting. All Black, Danimal, Brewman and Wolf King were all in attendance, with Kid Doster pulling in at 7:58 A.M. and Dutch just arriving at start time. Brian (nickname to be determined) also pulled in and eight riders were ready to launch in the cold.

As the peloton moved north of town, Gazelle Girl joined on revealing that she couldn’t believe she had gotten out of a nice warm bed to ride on such a cold morning.

And then they were nine!

As the sun came up on the peloton, and the color of the trees in the cold morning mist splashed brilliant across the route, the morning was nothing short of drop dead gorgeous despite the cold air!

Fall is truly a great time to ride!

This month’s edition of Bicycling Magazine has a great section on “You know you’re a biker when….” And it caused us here at the Update to think of a couple of other items to add to their list.

You know you’re a biker when….

You take off to ride when the temp is at sub 35 degrees…..

You take off to ride when it is 35 degrees AND it is also dark outside…..

You take off to ride wearing so much winter gear it feels like you’re pedaling in thick mud…..

You see frost form on you arms as you ride and say, “Cool…..”

Though different riders took sprints, no one seemed interested in contesting jumps to stop ahead signs. In the Country Club section, Wolf King attacked after Kellogg Corner and a group was late in forming up to pull him back. By the time the group had expended energy to bring him back just short of the Rt. 43 Stop Ahead, Sharkman, who had been sitting in patiently at the rear of the peloton, made a move that no one responded to and he took the sprint.

As the Mighty Minion Nation crested the Col de Norte and started south, they looked over to the field to the left and saw a herd of deer watching them ride by. No one knew if the deer were looking for Cloud Girl or just curious at the riders dressed in tons of clothes.

The riders stayed together through the ride after Danimal easily won the G Ave. sprint the group started moving into position as they headed towards the finish. Sharkman lead the Minions south and then Brewman and Gazelle Girl took over. No one wanted to move too early and the peloton seemed content to let Brewman and Gazelle Girl to do the work.

As the train descended to the finish, Kid Doster attacked and took the lead with Sharkman on his wheel. Danimal responded to the charge and Sharkman moved to Danimals wheel as they went around Kid Doster. Sharkman was feeling pretty good as the finish line got closer. Just then he saw an attack to the right and it was none other than Wolf King, with Dutch hot on his wheel. The jump was so effective, it was hard for Danimal, Sharkman and Kid Doster to respond. Wolf King, showing his old form, edged out Dutch with Danimal taking the final podium spot.

The fans were all bundled up on the Champs le Galesburg as our hero’s rode to the Klutch. Luann was waiting with hot Bottomless Kups in the Klutch, along with the paparazzi, who clamored to get a comment from the Wolf King. All he seemed to want to talk about was his man crush on Tom Brady, while Gazelle Girl complained about how boring it was to watch bike racing on T.V. Boring? What is that all about?

It was another great ride and you won’t want to miss the last couple rides of the season or the extremely interesting discussions that take place in the Klutch after the ride!

This Saturday – Launch Time 8:30 P.M. – Sharp!

Be there!

Was that Boffo?

Galesburg, Mi. – Many of the Minions that were unable to attend the gala Sharkman 60th Birthday Celebration at the Klutch two weeks ago, have written into the Update to ask if that was actually the wayward Boffo in the photograph from last weeks story. After all, no one had seen or heard of Boffo since his series of victories earlier in the season.

We are pleased to report that it WAS the rascally clown just back from Midget Racing on the east coast after he toured Eastern Europe, where he was wrestling bears with a Russian Circus. He was kind enough to stop in and sign autographs, eat copious amounts of cake, and drink several coffees for a few minutes before driving off with the family in a little red fire truck with about 30 clowns in the back and giving his patented Boffo laugh.

Many have also asked where Sooner and Peugeot Guy have disappeared to. Normally weekly regulars, they’ve not been seen in some time and speculation centered on if the two had run off to join the circus as well. The Update asks that if any Minions have seen these two regular Minions, please report it to the Update.

Distribution List Update

It is once again time to clean up the email distribution list. The list is now at almost 60 Minions, many of whom we have not seen in some time. We will begin to clean out the names of those we have not seen in a while unless we hear from you. Let us know if you want to stay on the distribution list and continue to be harassed by these emails. If you want to be removed, send a check for $50.00 made out to Sharkman and mail it to;

Galesburg, Mi. – Though the weather didn't cooperate, it also didn’t stop the Minions from celebrating our hero’s 60th Birthday on Saturday!

Some riders did actually show up to ride, despite the rain. Wolf King, All Black, Brewman, and Dutch where there to start, but when they realized the Sharkman would not be starting, they decided to beg off and return to the Klutch later for the festivities.

And what festivities they were!

It was obvious that it was the Sharkman’s Birthday as one approached the Koffee Klutch. As you can see from the above photo. Happy Birthday Sharkman was announced to the greater Galesburg metropolis on the Klutch road sign.

It was standing room only at the Klutch as the throngs of fans, paparazzi, tofosi and riders began to gather. Lava Girl had brought a number of photo’s chronicling the life of the living legend that seemed to be very popular with the crowd.

After some welcoming statements by President Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Lance Armstrong, The Skipper led the Minions in a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday. Then the Sharkman blew out the candles, unaided we might add, and the opening of cards and presents ensued.

Bissell Boy made a few remarks and then presented the Sharkman with a gift from all the Minions. The anticipation grew to a fevered pitch as the legendary Shark pulled the wrapping from the large box. The old Shark was all business as he opened the box to find…….Training Wheels!?! Though the Minions tried to tell Sharkman that they were titanium, he wasn’t buying it. Sharkman also received a pair of Shark Socks, a couple of toy sharks and a gift card to McDonalds! Is this a great country or what!?!

LuAnn jumped into the gift giving with an official Koffee Klutch T Shirt and Hat! What a Barista! Remembering the Minion Credo that “if you can’t be good, look good!” the Shark was looking pretty darn good in his new KK Hat!

One of the high points of the morning was a long distance collect call from none other than the Qman! After correcting the Minions for singing Happy Birthday off key, he wished Sharkman a happy Birthday, completing the mornings festivities.

But don’t worry, there are a few Saturday’s left before the end of the season and you won't want to miss them!

Galesburg, Mi.
– As our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, laid his head on his shark pillow on Friday night, he was sure that the morning would bring rain. The forecast was not good and the old Shark was sure the Minions weather luck had run out. He awoke several times during his sleep wondering if the ride would be a wash out and to listen for the sound of rain on the Shark Cove roof.

However, and much to his surprise, when the Shark Alarm went off and our hero leaped to the window to look, though the street was wet, it did not appear to be raining!

Sharkman dashed to the kitchen to start the Shark Koffee maker and click on the Shark Radar. Our hero cut a fine figure in his shark pajama’s, sipping coffee and checking the radar, as the green glow of the screen shined on his happy Shark face.

The radar indicated no rain over the KK-TdG field of dreams and a smile stretched across the Sharkman’s face revealing his carnivore teeth.

GAME ON!

After a minor wardrobe malfunction involving his Sidi shoe buckle in the dark, the Shark was off with lights flashing in the silent morning air. He immediately felt the cold presence of water shooting up his dorsal fin from his rear tire. The roads were wet and his wheels were throwing rain up in his wake like a manure spreader on a farm field. The back of his fine, powder blue Schwinn retro jersey began displaying the evidence of the dark wet roads.

Though the weather was iffy, 12 Minions showed up for the start with a couple of new riders. One new rider, now known as “Just Gerry” was welcomed into the fold. Welcome Just Gerry!

A second rider came in late to the start and wasn’t particularly talkative. It was later learned he was from Indiana visiting in-laws, but never told the Minions how he heard about the ride. He quickly grew impatient when it was stated that, “we leave no Minion behind.” He got so impatient that he left the group after the C ave. sprint and left the peloton at Frona’s. I guess he wasn’t Minions Material!

Many of the Minions drove cars to the start, not because of the wet roads, but because no one thought anyone else would show up to ride in the wet conditions and they could drive back home to bed! But as we all know, the Minions will ride in the rain, but will not START in the rain!

Everyone did have to wait, yet again, for Wolf King as he put on all sorts of odd gear (like socks over his shoes, a special articulating holder for his HR monitor, etc.). What part of SHARP does Wolf King not understand! The Pirate lead the group out in the absence of the Skipper.

The group was somewhat social for the first part of the ride, keeping the average speed down and the conversation up until, of course, the Country Club section.

Speed picked up from that point on, but the peloton pretty much stayed together through the Col de Norte and the Bible Conference hills and unto the inlet sprint. Wildman, B-Rod, Kid Doster, the Un-named rider, Falcon, Wolf King, All Black, Pirate, were all mixing it up at the front as the fast moving train headed to the G Ave. Sprint.

As the Mighty Minion Nation headed south to the finish, it seemed as though no one wanted to be at the front. The group has been missing Bullet Bob and his patented “flyer” move that would stretch out the peloton for a safer finish.

As the Minion train crested the hill, the riders began to line up for the finish.

Wolf King opened a break with Falcon right behind him and B-Rod breathing down Falcon’s back. A string of Minions followed closely behind.

Wolf King and Falcon battled down to the finish as the Falcon, aka Kid Asterisk, took the tape by a half a wheel, with B-Rod again taking the last podium spot.

Average speed was at 18.9 mph and may have been down due to the slow start and the wet roads.

Were the roads really that wet you might ask? Sharkman reported that his bike was so dirty when he washed it that he found two dead raccoons pasted to his bottom bracket and several Dixie Cups and a Coors beer can stuck in his brakes.

The riders poured into the Klutch for the post race activity and Falcon was feeling so good, he bought Sharkman his koffee. Well, he was also trying to get rid of that asterisks!

Talk centered on next weeks Birthday activity!

SHARKMAN TURNS 60!

You won’t want to miss Saturday’s ride or the post ride Klutch as the Mighty Minion Nation celebrates our hero’s 60th Birthday!

Lava Girl will be there with cake and Sharkman is buying the bottomless Kups! We’ve checked with Luann and she is good to go on the celebration!

It is rumored that Lance Armstrong, President Obama and Oprah will all be in attendance or at least send their regards!

Should it rain, or if you cannot ride, please try to stop by around 9:30-9:45 a.m. to help the old Shark blow out the candles on that cake! The defibulator will be on standby as the old Shark makes his wish! What a photo op! Is this a great country or what?

You won’t want to miss this ride or this celebration!

Launch time – 8:00 A.M. – SHARP WOLF KING!

There are only so many weeks left this season!

If it is raining – meet at the Klutch at 9:45 A.M.!

Wolf King back on the Podium!

Free Swag? What gives?

Sharkman’s Birthday coming October 4!

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
September 19, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – Our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, could feel the crisp air of fall as he mounted his titanium steed at the Shark Cove on Saturday morning. In the dim light of the fall morning, the rear light flashing on the back of Sharkman’s helmet, he thought of what a great season of fantastic weather this has been as he rode to the start. One might complain about the cool temps, but from a Minion perspective, this was yet another fine Saturday morning for riding a bike!

Though it is Youth Soccer season, and it is getting cooler, the crowds keep coming out! 12 riders saddled up for the start and when Knute, aka Knute jumped on after the Honorary Sharkman Sprint, it made 13 Minions in the peleton. Even Wildman had returned to the Minion Nation after a long absense!

The pace was again extremely fast through the Country Club section up to the Col de Norte. Danimal was particularly on fire as he picked off sprints in the early going and pushed the pace from the front to near mach 2 speeds.

Even Sharkman was feeling spunky and rode the wheel of his lead out guy, Brewman, to take the Inlet sprint and then followed that by taking the G ave. Sprint after Danimal faded just before the stop ahead. When was the last time Sharkman took two sprints in a row? Maybe, like…..never?!?

As the peleton formed up for the finish, the Minions were very bunched up at the top of the final hill. Everyone was waiting for someone to make a move when Wolf King decided to jump on the inside and catch everyone off guard. Knute, aka Knute, was the first to respond and went after the rabid Wolf. This started a chain reaction response as the pace rapidly picked up.

With Several Minions in pursuit, the battle between Knute and Wolf King went down to the wire. Knute took the tape with Wolf King on his wheel and B-Rod taking the third spot on the podium with a cast of Minions right behind them!

Of course the real winner on the day was Sharkman as he was the only rider to be wearing a Tony the Tiger Jersey on Tony the Tiger Jersey Day, thus, he was declared the real winner.

At the Klutch, Wildman came bearing gifts! Wildman had been an Official at the Tour of Missouri and had swag for everyone! You heard that right, an OFFICIAL at the Tour of Missouri! He actually had a Tour of Missouri T shirt for the Sharkman, along with water bottles, wrist bands and energy jelly beans for everyone! Thanks Wildman!

But to top it all, Wolf King bought koffee! You heard that right! Wolf King. When was the last time Wolf King bought Koffee? Maybe, like……never?!? Thanks Wolf King!

It was a great day in the Minion Nation!

But it just get’s better!
Help Celebrate Sharkman's 60th!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 3, 2009! It will be Sharkman’s Birthday Eve party at the Klutch. Yes, you heard it here in the Update first! Sharkman will be 60 years young on October 4 and to help him celebrate you need to be at the Klutch at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 3!

Lava Girl has cleared it with Luann and we will have cake! And the koffee is on the Sharkman! Help him celebrate 60th Birthday eve!

If the weather is bad, we’ll still meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Klutch! If you can’t ride that morning, try to stop by to see the Shark age before your very eyes!

Be there!

This Saturday, Launch Time – 8:00 A.M. Sharp!

You won’t want to miss another great fall morning! The weather looks warm, but chance of thundershowers. So watch the radar!

Falcon*, Rainman & Dutch fill out Podium!

Controversy in the Peloton!

Who really finished third?

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
September 12, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – The Minions continue to be blessed with fantastic weather this season! 17 Minions met for the start, which we believe is a post Labor Day record turnout. Add the two other riders that joined during the ride certainly sets this day of 19 riders as a record for the Minions. Many riders stated they had come out for the moment of silence for Aaron Webster. Gazelle Girl even gave up a few extra minutes of sleep to be there for the start. After a few words for Aaron and the peloton bowed their heads for a moment of silence, the Minions slowly rode though town with the sun on their shoulders and Aaron in their hearts.

Things were slow coming out of town as thoughts of loss of a Minion weighed on the riders, but when Falcon and Rainman moved to the front of the peloton, Sharkman responded and took the honorary first sprint.

Game on!

As the riders came around the corner to the run up sprint to the col de Twin Lakes, Knute, aka Knute, joined on looking dapper in his Lotto Team Kit. Knute commented on how great the Peloton looked coming over the rise in the road with the sun on their backs and the mist in the air.

As seems to be the case, the peloton really began to roll through the Country Club section of the ride and the only thing that slowed them was a detour through the Country Club parking lot by the Power Company fixing a downed line in the road.

At the top of the col de Norte, none other than Nikeboy joined on looking quite sharp in his Seven kit aboard his new SEVEN CARBON FIBER CAMPY SUPER RECORD EQUIPPED ride! Does this man have class or what? How many Sevens can one man own? Getting a late start, he decided to join the peloton coming up the east side of the lake.

The sprints were lively through the Bible Conference Hills and on to the Inlet.
Once the Peloton made the Route 89 crossing the pace line picked up as did the speed.
After the G Ave. crossing, Sharkman and Dutch lead the peloton and it seemed as though no one else wanted to take over. As the peloton crested the final hill, the Mighty Minion Nation sailed past our intrepid hero, Sharkman and went hard for the tape. Falcon, Rainman, Nikeboy, Dutch and others battled for the top spot on the podium. At the end, Falcon* took the tape, with Rainman, and Nikeboy on this tail. However, since Nikeboy had not ridden the entire course, the third spot on the podium was given to Dutch.

The fans went wild on the Champs le Galesburg while the media waited in the Klutch for interviews.

There were some questions as to who finished third, and that is when the real controversy began.

Falcon stated that Nikeboy was the singular reason for his win. He went on to reveal that Nikeboy had pulled him up to the front to take the tape. After a review by the Minion Commission, the win was granted, however, with an asterisk for taking an illegal draft off of Nikeboy. It should also be noted that Falcon has more asterisks than any Minion in the peloton.

How many more weeks of great weather will the Minions have?

Can these great turnouts continue?

Can Falcon get anymore asterisks?

Get the answer to these questions and more!

Come on out and ride!

The weather is again sounding good for this weekend and there may not be many of these great weather weekends left.

So we are declaring this weekend “Tony the Tiger Jersey Weekend.” That’s right, don your Tiger Jersey this weekend, it might be the last short sleeved jersey weekend for a while!

Launch time – 8:00 A.M. – SHARP!

Cannonsburg, Mi. – The Krisscross Cyclocross Race Season kicked off in Cannonsburg, Mi. last Friday night, September 11, with three Mighty Minions in attendance. Bissell Boy, Ironman & our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, all entering the pain cave known as “cyclocross.” You have to love any group whose motto is “Racing and beer!”

Bissell Boy and Sharkman took part in the C class race that included 5 laps of the 1.3 mile course through hills, barriers and sand pits. Bissell Boy took 14th Place and Sharkman followed in 15th. As you can see from the photo, Sharkman was in the Pain Cave for 26 minutes with an average HR of 168! But he loved the race!

Doesn’t Bissell Boy look sharp in his Bissell kit?

Ironman competed in the B-Masters class, doing 8 laps and finished 14th! Decked out in his Purdue kit, he cut a fine figure on the course.

You have to try this sport! Racing bikes and drinking beer?

An Important Message from the Sharkman

We lost one of our own this past week, someone who rode with many of you this past summer as a celebrity rider and former Minion.

It is with deep regret that I report that Jeff Webster, aka Bianchi Boy and an original Minion who you will remember rode with us on a single speed earlier this summer, lost his son Aaron in a car accident last Saturday morning. Aaron was 20 years old.

Some of you may also remember that Aaron rode my cyclocross bike as a celebrity rider with his Dad back in July. If you were there that morning you would remember him for his big smile and easy going way. He was an exceptional rider and former Colorado State Junior Mountain Biking Champion and his loss leaves a big whole in the hearts of the Minion Nation. He was also a very exceptional young man.

I will remember Aaron as someone whose shining eyes brought a smile to everyone he met and for his big heart and gentle manner.

Jeff wrote a heart felt letter to those of us who knew Aaron and I share some of that here.
Aaron attended Baylor last year, but transferred to the University of Arkansas to be closer to home and close to his fiancée.

Aaron was one of those rare young men who was all about helping others, especially kids. He was always smiling, laughing, and bringing the best out of people. He worked the last two summers at the Roger's Activity Center. A local "YMCA" type facility, often for families that are less privileged to attend higher end places. He worked with the 6th graders, and he was well loved for his work there.

Aaron continues to help others as he donated his liver and kidneys to save two children in Little Rock, his lungs will save a person in Wisconsin, and Illinois. His heart which was as big as Texas, will save a 32 yr old Texan. He'll give the gift of sight to two others. And much more.....

The Aaron Webster Memorial Fund for helping underprivileged children has been set up. Any gifts you care to send are tax deductible. Please mail any donations to the address below. For questions contact Coleta Paris @ 479.631.0336 x434:

Aaron Webster Memorial Fund
The Rogers Activity Center
315 West Olive Street
Rogers, Arkansas 72758

Hopefully, some of the Minions will find it in their hearts to make a donation to remember one of our own.

To his parents, Jeff and Teena, his sisters, Rachael and Katie, we offer our thoughts and heart felt prayers and please know that “we leave no Minion behind.”

Aaron will ride with the Minions whenever and wherever we ride.
Before we ride this Saturday, we will honor Aaron’s memory with a moment of silence. When we saddle up and click in, the Sharkman and his Mighty Minion Nation will carry Aaron’s memory in our hearts.

Labor Day Weekend was a Beer Fest

Oberon Controls the Peloton

"Miller Time" Rules Sprints

Falcon Takes Podium

Galesburg, MI
September 5, 2009

Galesgurg, MI - 23 Minions showed up for Beer Jersey Day, must of thought they'd be filling water bottles with the stuff or something. Per usual, Oberon ruled the day with 6 riders kitted up and All Black was awarded best jersey, sporting his Ryde Beer kit with the slogan "draught me " and several Minions took advantage of his offer.

Danimal and Hausman led the riders up 36th street and went off the front at a considerable distance until Falcon bridged the gap yielding the first sprint to the missing Sharkman.

Iron Man took the Col de Twin Lakes climb as we were joined by Knute and then it was Miller Time. The majority of the intermediate sprints were taken by the father/son duo, Mike and Luke Miller. If this publication is granted a vote they would now be known as Oil Man and Skywalker in the Mighty Minion Nation.

Stryker Guy was thrown deep into the "Pain Cave" through the Country Club Hills and the run up to M-43. Apparently he started Beer Day the night prior and was a bit wounded after a two week hiatus from his steed.

The group lifted the pace down 37th hitting 27 mph and setting a new average high of 21.5 mph for the ride. Did we already say it was "Miller Time"?!

As the peloton crested the final rise toward the sprint the group began to split and the lead outs fell off the pace. At the finish line it was Falcon and for the first time this year a tie for second between Wildman and Iron Man.

As Fall is upon us the rides will continue as long as possible. We will lose a few to soccer and other events but we will ride as long as the weather permits.

College Game Day Big Success!

MSU Wins!

Ironman, Un-Named Rider, Kid Doster on the Podium!

Who Bought the Koffee?

Belo News Update
Galesburg, MI.
August 29, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – The Mighty Minion Nation had one of the best turn outs of the season on Saturday, when 24 Minions, many decked out in College Kit, showed up for the KK-TdG start.

UCLA, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Illinois, three Michigan States and Two Michigan Jerseys were represented in the peloton. Falcon, showing up late once again, failed to make the photo op (see photo). After autographs, the Minions began to get anxious for the start.

Two new riders joined the group and they came equipped with their own nick names! Guess word has gotten out that getting named by the Minions might not be a good thing!

Welcome to new riders Dutch and Chumly! Chumly was actually equipped with a neck brace! Had he heard about this group and just come prepared?

No, he had actually suffered a broken neck in a mountain bike accident and was in recovery. What?!? That’s right! One tough Minion! He will fit right in with this group! He certainly get’s “Stud of the Week” honors!

The Skipper, decked out in his University of Oberon jersey, got the bunch of coeds started off as the sound of pedals “clicking in” could be heard through out the crisp autumn like air.

As the large group worked its way past the Klutch, Luann gave a wave to our intrepid hero’s from the window as they talked and socialized like a bunch of kids on the first day of school.

Once again, Gazelle Girl met the peloton on the way north of the city. Sharkman commented that he realized that she had figured a way to get her name in the Update each week by arriving at the start in this fashion and she stated that it also gave her more time to sleep!

Danimal and Falcon lead out our hero, the Sharkman, as he took the ceremonial first sprint.

The group stayed bunched as everyone enjoyed watching, what has now become known as, the Rose Bowl of Cycling. Falcon, decked out in his Michigan Jersey, and Zickman, attired in his UCLA Kit, fought it out in a neck and neck battles around the course, with intermittent interruptions by Bissell Boy, Brewman and Dr. Dave in their MSU kit, and others, joining in the fun. Even Wolf King in his Illinois kit took a jump on the Col de Norte and nearly took the climb before being caught by the Pirate, looking quite dapper in his Cincinnati kit as he too, made a run at the Big Ten!

Some of the riders split off after the inlet and the remainder of the Minions moved on to the Rt. 89 crossing where the usual double pace line picked up the speed. Again, the college kit ruled, as the Un-Named Rider, in his Michigan jersey took the G Ave. sprint.

New rider, Dutch, and the Sharkman, led the Minions after the G Ave. crossing. However, no one seemed to want to play as they looked back and no one would come through. The Minions just left them both out front to do all the work. All Black later joined in along with a few other riders as the peloton approached the hill to the finish.

As the Mighty Minion Nation crested the final climb, the riders began to make their move.

Sharkman later commented that he was concerned about the bunch finish, but everyone held their lines and it was a clean shot to the stop ahead.

As the sun began to break out of the clouds and over the blessed Minions, they bore down on the finish like a colorful viper snake ready to strike on the stop ahead sign!

Not wanting to give the college guys a win, Ironman took the lead, with the Un-Named Rider and none other than Kid Doster on his wheel.

The Update can’t remember, but we think this is the Un-Named Riders first podium appearance, but not Kid Dosters, who’s name might change to “Podium Boy” for his third place finish.

The fans went wild on the Champs le Galesburg as our hero’s zipped up their jerseys for the sponsors and colleges and then waved to the paparazzi as the photo’s were taken.

What happened next, however, will need careful clarification.

Sharkman, not wanting to be behind anyone in line ordering a foo foo Koffee in the Klutch, ran the light (shame on him) attempting to be first in line. He could not, however, beat another Minion in getting to Luann first. However, Bissell Boy jumped in with a $20 bill and told Luann, “I’m buying until the $20 runs out!” Whoa, big time thanks to Bissell Boy (and he mentioned that Zickman had done it the previous week – Whoa, big time thanks to Zickman and don’t ever do that again unless Sharkman is in attendance!).

However, for some reason, the Minions began thanking the Sharkman for buying the Koffee because he was at the front of the line! Heck, we don’t think Sharkman has bought koffee all year! He has milked this “Sharkman” thing the whole season!

So, to set the record strait, Bissell Boy bought the first $20 worth of koffee!

Sharkman will again be absent next week, as he is heading out to Crested Butte, Colorado to mountain bike with his Shark Son-in-Laws and play with his Grandsharklets! So someone will have to report in to the Update on next weeks activities…..and what are those activities?

Next week is Labor Day Weekend and what do people do on Labor Day Weekend you ask? They drink beer! Yes, Beer! Is this a great country or what? Lager, Bitter, Lite, Wheat, you name it, we love beer after a hard days work!

So, in honor of Labor Day, Saturday’s ride has been declared, “Beer Jersey Day.”

Minions are asked to wear their favorite Beer Jersey for the ride.

Will Oberon get knocked from the top of the favorite beer podium spot? Be there Saturday to find out!

Saturday – Launch Time 8:00 A.M. – SHARP!

There are just so many weekends left!

Minions Ride Without Incident!

Wildman Returns

Doctors Duel

Knute Surly on Fixie

Belo News
August 22, 2009
Gull Lake

It seems that all was back to normal in the peloton as 16 Shark-less minions rode on a cloudy, brisk morning. Not only were they Shark-less, they were without Skipper, so Danimal lead the peloton out of the parking lot with his buddies Chumley and Dan Henshaw, both returning from injuries. It was a bit frightening for the minions to witness Chumley in a full back and neck brace due to injuries sustained on his mountain bike but All Black, back in All Black, had a calming affect as they headed north on 36th at a social pace. The pace lifted and Sharkman was granted the honorary opening sprint and the speed increased nearing the 35th Street sprint as Hausman won uncontested.

As they spun through Twin Lakes and up the Col the group splintered and a small group went off the front with No Name taking the sprint at DE. The pace continued to lift as the pack went through Country Club Hills and several riders were shoved into the "pain cave" with the move up to M-43 where the Zickman took the sprint.

The tight grupetto including Stryker Guy, Sooner, who reported the only riding he has done this year is on Saturdays, B-Rod, Sting Ray and Bissell Boy headed south after the climb up Col de Norte. Wildman showed he has been working hard to dominate tri's this summer winning the Frona's sprint.

The peloton acquired Knute on the run down 39th as he was peddling a fine Surly Fixie and the the Doctors Scalpel Duel began as Dr. Dave and Zickman dueled it out for the Bay sprint with Dr. Dave edging out the Z-man.

Gazelle Girl in fine late season form was riding with the front group all day and continued as they headed down 37th in what would turn out to be nearly a 20 mph average. The G Ave sprint went uncontested. No Name showing Super Domestique work pulled the group up the last rise toward the sprint and the group chased toward the finish. Iron Man took final honors, sharing the podium with Zickman and Falcon.

Will Sharkman return? When is College Game Day? Show up Saturday for the last ride of August!

Cloud Girl vs. Bambi!

Bambi Banned!

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
August 15, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – The buzz in bike circles this entire week has been, “How is Cloud Girl?”

The emails started pouring in on Saturday afternoon and on into Monday morning. “How was Cloud Girl doing?” They all asked.

The Update is very pleased to report that Cloud Girl is doing fine despite the major road rash and crunched, but not broken, pinkie finger that she suffered after her run in with Bambi on Saturday.

Unless you live in a cave, you are by now aware that our own Cloud Girl tangled with a wayward deer during last Saturday’s KK-TdG. The Update has been amazed that people who don’t even ride a bike, were aware of the incident and wanted to know how Cloud Girl was doing.

The day began innocently enough when 22 minions toed the start line. Prior to the Skipper starting the group out, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, cautioned everyone that there was some sort of event around Gull lake involving runners and bikers and that everyone needed to be careful.

The start of the ride was peaceful enough with a couple more riders joined on, including Gazelle Girl, as the peloton moved north of town.As the Minions made the turn at the Yorkville Church, some of the runners and bikers began to appear on the course and the entire peloton, not wanting to repeat the Shermanator debacle, slowed and cautioned that they were “passing on the left.”

As the Peloton grouped up at the summit of the cul de Norte, Cloud Girl shouted out to Sharkman that she was on and the Minions started down the hill with Cloud Girl in tow.

But as the group picked up speed and spread out, and as Cloud Girl approached the road to the boat launch at a pretty good clip, a deer ran out in front of her and Cloud Girl “T Boned” the deer, going down hard on the pavement!

Meanwhile, the rest of the peleton was moving ahead and did not hear a shout that a rider was down.Airman and Dr. Dave realized the crash and were able to respond. There was also a very kind couple who stopped and were able to not only help, but gave Cloud Girl a ride back to her car.

The deer, however, could not be reached for comment. A spokesman for the deer named Thumper did state that the deer's mother has severely reprimanded her for not looking both ways before crossing and has been told that she is not to play in the street if the Minions are riding!

Cloud Girl sustained some pretty severe road rash to her shins, arms and lower back as she skidded across the road. She did, however, do a great job in protecting her Kuota, which came out of the debacle without a scratch. Her brand new helmet, however, was not as lucky as it took a good crack.

As the hapless Minions contested the C Ave. sprint, they had circled up at Fronas to wait for riders when a lady in a minivan told them, “the girl rider hit a deer at the last road!”

The Minions, realizing it had to be Cloud Girl, immediately started back and confusion ruled as they could not find the scene of the accident. This also caused the Minions to have to repeat the Bible Conference Hills that everyone seems to hate! Damn Bible Conference Hills!

As the Minions scattered along the road, a group that had gotten back to her returned to announce the Cloud Girl was on her way back to the start.

As the Minions staggered in to the Klutch, Luann handed Sharkman the phone. It was Cloud Girl reporting in that she was O.K., but a little shook up. She later came into the Klutch with Airman to display her wounds.

It was also reported, and this is important, that Brewman bought Sharkman his koffee as he spoke on the phone with Cloud Girl.

As previously reported, Bullet Bob and the lovely Mrs. Bullet were on hand (see previous story).
Again, it was an unusual ride......but great weather!

We, here at the Update, are just pleased that Cloud Girl is doing O.K. and hope she will be back in the peloton soon.

Minions are invited to leave get well wishes in the comment section.

You won't want to miss this weeks ride! Mostly out of morbid curiosity..... but you won't want to miss it!

It is, however, reported that our hero, the Sharkman, will not be in attendance, but the Minions will ride!
