SOUTH ROUTE THIS SATURDAY! OH, THE HUMANITY!

All the WAM jersey's were up at the WAM ride! Oh, the humanity!
But don't the Minions look great!?!

SHARK MINION JERSEY DAY!

STYKER GUY AT WAM!!!

Belo News
July 27, 2019

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman was excited to get his WAM Kit on and ride! It looked like perfect weather was in the mix and he had no idea of what awaited him as he donned his WAM Jersey and Team Taylor socks!
Just look at this guy!

No need to check the radar on this Saturday, as it was bright and warm as the garage door lifted and the old Shark saw his wing man, Yeti Boy, riding up with a backpack loaded with raisin bread to celebrate his birthday!

Is this a great country or what?!?

As the two exchanged pleasantries, two riders approached who were not immediately recognized, silhouetted against the rising sun.

Then our hero realized it was long, lost Mad Dog back in the Nation!

Oh, the humanity!

He was accompanied by none other than Super Trooper! They had met up on the road and ridden in together.

As the four riders approached the Helmer Road crossing, they had not seen Reb. Sharkman suggested they cross Helmer and give the tardy rider a few minutes. However, as they crossed, they observed the late rider waving frantically from the I-94 bridge as if to say, "wait for me! wait for me!"

There was a lot of chatter in the group as they all caught up with Mad Dog and Yeti Boy, as Yeti had missed a few Saturday's as well.
Fabio even had sandles on!
Oh, the humanity!

Yeti Boy stopped as the group passed the Klutch, to drop off his bread and back pack (and as we learn later, his credit card).

At the start, Minions began to gather for the ride.

There were several Minion who were making their season debut or returning to the Nation after long hiatus's!

Tan Man, Kid Gallagher, and later, even Bob the Builder were all making season debuts! Welcome back, Shark Minions!

Brewman was in attendance, extending his ironman record on the season! Wow!

Sharkman was the only rider in WAM Kit. Wildman confessed he had not read last weeks edition of Belo News and probably was the only other WAM veteran in the mix besides Sharkman and Brewman.

Sharkman apologizes to Team Taylor and Team Eaton, as he should have had this Jersey Day a week sooner, but lost track of the weeks......(hey, he is retired). Sharkman pledged to do better next year!

Then it happened!
Happy Birthday Yeti Boy!

In what will go down as an historic moment in Shark Minion history, the man who brought you riding the Iceman with no seat one year and with a Camelbak loaded with beer the next, who introduced the Nation to a "woodie," who has shown up for mountain bike rides with an army helmet and aviator sun glasses, who continues to wow the Nation with his antics, speed and desire to be known as "Fabio," Zyckmann rode in, on WAM Kit Day, introducing what has now become known as  Zytchmaoen Style!

Zytchmaoen Style? Wait, .....what???

Yes, you heard that correctly, Bunkie!

Decked out in an Hawaiian shirt, shorts and sandals, for no reason what so ever, the legend known as Zyckmann wowed the crowd with his sartorial splendor!

When asked why, the Jimmy Buffett of the peloton stated, "Because I felt like it!"

Oh, the humanity! The Dude abides! You go Fabio!
Tan Man making his season debut!

After all the excitement died down, Sharkman confirmed there were at least 16 Shark Minions in attendance and breathed a sigh of relief, as his memory, like his hearing, is in major decline!!!

As the sound of pedals clicking in echoed throughout the school yard, Sharkman led his mighty Minion Nation out to their field of dreams known as the KK-TdG!

The Nation got stopped at the light in front of the Klutch and this gave the Early Morning Koffee group time to wave their adoration and for Andrew to get a count. Having Yeti Boys Bread in house may have indicated to Andrew a good post ride turn out!

As the Nation headed north, Sharkman tried to go back and welcome his returning minions to the peloton, but with close to 20 riders it was difficult to visit with them all as other riders, like PJ jumped on.

Tan Man and Super Trooper lead the group north and as Sharkman came up for his honorary sprint, Super Trooper pushed the pace up and challenged our intrepid hero. "What was he doing?" thought the Sharkman, who assumed he would hit the brakes as they approached the first sprint.

However, Super Trooper kept going and took the sprint!!!
Brewman extending his steak!
A WAM vet but no jersey?
Didn't read the blog?

The young Minion, when confronted with the major faux paus and the possibility of becoming Personna Non Grata, claimed he was unaware of the tradition, so the old Shark forgave him, immediately took the sprint win from him, and named hizzelf the winner of the sprint, capturing it at a new speed record of 27 mph!

Oh, the humanity!

The Nation picked up momentum as the fast moving train worked it's way through the col de Twin Lakes and the col de No Name, as well as the Yorkville Church, Kellogg Korner and the Kountry Klub section. The speed was well up in this section but the Nation, as it is wont to do, sat up at the turn for the run up to the Rt. 43 sprint.

As the Minions grouped back up, Hermster took an early flyer and attacked, opening up a pretty good gap, before a counter attack formed up and tracked him down just before the sprint. Sharkman congratulated him on a great attempt, commenting he went just a tad early. Hermster responded by exclaiming "I got closer to my goal!"

You go Hermster!!!

Doper led the group up the Col de Norte and Sharkman, not wanting to be left behind again, quickly got the train re-started after all the Minions made the hill and went up front.
Long lost Mad Dog returns!!!
Oh, the humanity!

The fast moving Shark Train moved through the Holy Rollers and on to the feed stop, where Gazelle Girl announce the pace line would be in a clock wise manner after the Digital Divide.

At the Food Stop, the Nation was surprised by another returning Minion, Bob the Builder, who was making a return and wanted to test his legs over the final section of the KK-TdG!

Welcome back, Bob the Builder! You've been missed!

After the Digital Divide, Sharkman and Yeti Boy immediately went to the front and started a two man pace line in the prescribed clock wise direction, per Gazelle Girls instructions.

Boatman, Sasquatch and Toesetter quickly joined on and got the speed up, but none of the other Minions seemed to want to join on the fun!??

The 5 rider pace line kept moving, while a clump of Minions followed in their wake.

As the sprint loomed ahead, Sasquatch, Toesetter and Sharkman came forward with Gazelle Girl on their wheels and like a well oiled Tour de France race team, led her forward as each peeled off after giving it their all, so that the "Sweetheart of the Peloton" slingshotted her way out to take the win as the crowd went wild in anticipation!

It was a victory for America!
Hoosier Boy was back to defend his
podium finish from the previous
week!

Sharkman shouted orders to ride safe and keep lines as the Nation crossed G ave. and started the run up to the finish.

Again, the Minions in the Nation didn't seem to want to move out front and it was left to Hermster to come forward. Falling on his sword, Hermster took the speed up as Shark Minions rode in his wake, looking for the right wheel to jump on.

As the Shark Train moved up the final ascent to the finish, looking like fly's on a wall trying to strategize when to make their move, riders started to come to the front. Tan Man and Super Trooper went first, followed by a cast of thousands.

As the Nation moved over the hill and to the final descent to the crown, Zoechkmoone flew forward, Hawaiian shirt flapping in the wind, like a pineapple bomb ready to explode!

Sharkman, seizing the opportunity and wishing he had his ukulele with him, latched on to the speedy Samoan and tried his best to hold on!

Super Trooper was leading to the end to take the sprint with Tan Man on his wheel! Amazingly, Jimmy Buffett had worked his way up to the final spot on the podium with the old Shark holding on

Kid Gallagher making his season debut!
Welcome back, Kid!
for dear life.

Then, Reb, pulling another "dick move" and yaking commentary, still thinking he is Phil Liggett (apparently from watching too much of the TdF!??) passed the old Shark just before the finish, taking him by half a wheel.

Reb made a failed attempt to file formal charges against Zyckmann, claiming his flapping Hawaiian shirt had hindered his dick move attempt to capture third, while Sharkman threaten charges against Reb for his dick move! Oh, the humanity!

It was a great day to be a Shark Minion in the Nation!

As the riders bunched up to head down the Champs le Galesburg, zipping up their non WAM jersey's for their sponsors, Sharkman led them in a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday to Yeti Boy!"

"Man," Sharkman thought, "I wish I'd of thought to bring my ukulele!

Yeti Boy and Sharkman rushed into the Klutch and Sharkman tired to pay, but Yeti again, beat him to the line and had already dropped his credit card down when he had dropped off the bread!
A great day to be in the Nation!

Thanks Yeti Boy and Happy Birthday!

The grateful Nation chowed down Yeti Boys fantastic Raisin Bread with big smiles on their faces!

It was a great day in the Nation!
Gazelle Girl and the "other guy" arriving
with the sun on her shoulder!

The koffee went late, but Sharkman was excited to have a full entourage on his return home along with a tail wind!

This IS a great country!

You won't want to miss next weeks edition of the ride, when, due to the Shermanator, the Nation will be doing the southern route! Oh, the humanity!

So if you missed the last time the Nation rode the Southern Route, along with all the sights, and the greatest down hill finish in all of cycling, this is your chance to ride it!

DISCOUNT OFFER FOR A ROAD I.D.!!!

Belo News
July 20, 2019

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke dark and moody over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman bound from his shark bed ready to rock. But then he noticed a text had come in over night from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department advising of severe thunderstorms.

Wait......what?
Greyhound in his green dot jersey!!!

He immediately checked the radar and found a big, green blob over his Field of Dreams known as the KK-TdG!

Oh, the humanity!

This "green blob" had some flashing red in the mix and extended from Galesburg to Lake Michigan!
Oh, double the humanity!

After checking out the Shark Portal, he did not see rain or wet pavement so he sent an urgent email to Gazelle Girl who's Triple Nasty Ranchero is near the ride start.

No reply.....probably too early for the Sweetheart of the Peloton! Right......

The Sharkman then turned on the Weather Channel and saw the rain, but it seemed to be slowly breaking up.

Gazelle Girl finally responded that she was "on the pot" and would check soon after! Oh, triple the humanity!

Sharkman was thinking that the rain was breaking up, the area was under a severe heat warning and he wanted to ride! Perhaps the rain would actually be refreshing?!?

Game on!
Well, it does commemorate 30 years,
so OK.....!

As he headed down Watkins, living the Sharkman's credo that "if you can't be good, look good!" in his retro jersey, he saw Reb's headlight approaching and all seemed to be right in the realm!

But as the two rode, they found sticks and limbs all over the roads. "It must have been on heck of a storm" they thought as Sharkman wondered how he had slept through it!

As they approached the Kalamazoo River, a tree had blown down in the road and had completely taken out the guard rail! Wow, what a storm!

As the riders gathered for the start, Sharkman noticed that Gecko was back! He also had brought a virgin Minion by the name of Grant, herein known as "Commuter" for the rear bike rack he was sporting on his bike. Welcome to the mighty Shark Minion Nation, Commuter!

Brewman was back, extending his record streak as well!

It appeared that there were 15 riders exactly at the start, so Sharkman would have to remember names, but that changed immediately after the start as other Minions jumped on.

There were a number of great retro jersey's on the day and a couple of 30th Anniversary Shark Minion Jersey's, which "may" qualify as retro simply because they are commemorative......uh? Ok?
Hermster commented that he is taking
stock of his jersey inventory for
next season!

After Gazelle Girl and her, what has become regular, "other guy," Toesetter, both sporting classic retro jerseys (hers an old Gazelle Sports Jersey and Toesetters a Schwinn jersey! Ah, remember Schwinn?.....)

Zykkcman was actually sporting a 7-11 Jersey, that had been autographed by THE Bob Roll, aka Bobke! Is this a great country or what!?? Zkymonne topped his attire off with a pair of U.S. Postal Service Socks! This man has style!

After a few words and the obligatory start photo, Sharkman led the Nation out on the road, two abreast, past the Klutch, where the tofosi was going crazy and Andrew was taking a count, and on to the Field of Dreams that seemed to be dry, but tree debris riddled......

Boatman jumped on reporting that he heard the sound of generators as he rode to the start (how did Sharkman sleep through that storm?).

More riders jumped on, including Skittles and Bissell Boy and memory prevents the naming of any others but the ride totaled approximately 18-19 riders.

Sharkman worked up and down the peloton pressing the flesh and welcoming Gecko back after a long hiatus, and introducing hizzelf to Commuter, who was named by Hoosier Boy.
Wildman was back and ready to rock!

Sharkman found hizzelf boxed in behind Doper and had trouble getting to the front where Boatman and Reb were pulling the social train known as the mighty Shark Minion Nation! However, he did eventually work his way to the front and didn't wait for a lead out before going for his honorary sprint, which he took at 23.9 mph!

After the count at the first G Ave. crossing, the pace picked up and the ride really began.

As the Nation moved towards the col de Twin Lakes, Sharkman grabbed Toesetters wheel as they headed down the hill, as Sharkman announced he needed momentum to get up the first hill on the course! Actually, he found hizzelf grabbing Toesetters wheel on several occasions! You go, Toesetter!

The pace through the Yorkville Church, past Kellogg Korner (which seemed to be swept - Thanks Skipper!) and on through the Kountry Klub section and finally on to a major battle between Hoosier Boy and Zcykhmann, for the RT. 43 sprint, with Hoosier Boy squeaking out the win!

At the Rt. 43 stop, Commuter reported he'd broken a spoke coming up the hill to Rt. 43. He wasn't sure if it just broke or if it was from all the branches and sticks on the road but after failing to get the spoke out, Super Wrench Skittles came up and wrapped it around another spoke and the Nation moved on up the col de Norte.
Gecko was back after a too
long hiatus! Welcome
back, Gecko!

Sharkman broke his own rule of not lallygagging at the top as he started a conversation with Bissell Boy and before he knew it, the fast moving Minion Train had pulled out of the station and he had to fight to get back on!

Through the Holy Rollers, the feed stop and the low road to the Inlet, the Nation moved in unison with the determination of a horse smelling the barn. The early morning storm/rain seemed to cool the weather down, but as the morning wore on, that began to change.

Sharkman asked Gazelle Girl to determine the direction of the pace line after the Digital Divide, but it was somewhat mute, as Skittles went to the front, took the speed up to about 25 mph and took the Nation on a wild ride through the Tunnel of Trees!

Toesetter led out his main squeeze, the Sweetheart of the Peloton for her GGG Spot Sprint and it was yet another victory for America!

The old guys were at it again in the run up to the finish! WHERE ARE THOSE YOUNG RIDERS!

Gazelle Girl and Toesetter started it out and Sharkman came up on the outside after the first hill along with Reb, who was giving a running commentary on the finish as though he was Phil Ligget and the late, Paul Sherwin!
Virgin Minion Grant, now known as
Commuter! Welcome to
the mighty Minion Nation!

Sharkman had it up to around 24 mph, listening to Reb's rambling, as Hermster came forward and took it up a notch to 26+ mph and held it really long!

Hermster pulled off at the base to the final ascent as Zyckmann came forward with a bunch of Minions latched on to his deep dish rimmed wheels!

As the Nation bore down on the final sprint it seemed as though everyone was in the mix until Skittles moved forward to take the tape with Hoosier Boy on his wheel!
Whoa, what is Hoosier Boy drinking!

The crowds on the Champs le Galesburg were amazing, considering the heat, as the Nation zipped up their retro kit for their sponsors, the paparazzi and the tofosi!

As they Nation sidled up to the Klutch, the Koffee was flowing but no one seemed to know who the mystery buyer was until Andrew came out to settle the bill and they learned it was Toast, who had come in and laid his credit card down before the Nation arrived!

Thanks Toast! Is this a great country or what?!?

The Klutch was rocking as a number of the Nation stuck around for koffee on what was becoming a hot day! The Koffee flowed as the press interviewed the riders and riders autographed printed editions of last weeks Belo News!

It was a good day to be a Shark Minion!

BLOODY 'ELL 'UNDRED DATE ANNOUNCED!!!

LUCKY ONES ROCK THE WALLDORFF!

THIS SATURDAY IS RETRO JERSEY DAY!!!

Belo News
July 13, 2019

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke bright and warm over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, was finding it a bit difficult to get his sorry dorsal out of his Shark Bed.

The sharklet's had invaded and had only left the day before and our hero was feeling the sharklet hangover. Playing none stop with 3 sharklets ages 4 to 10 can be tiring work, but oh, the fun!!!
Our "Style Guy," styling!

As he donned his Bissell Kit for Bissell Kit Day, along with his matching socks and riding gloves, he thought to himself what a fine figure he cut in his red and white lycra! Oh, the humanity.

As the Sharkman headed out to his steed, there was Nikeboy, in his usual finery, and once again revealing why he is "The Style Guy!" With his white jersey, blue shorts and matching white shoes, he too, was looking pretty good!

As they headed out on Watkins they saw Fire riding towards them as they also saw a bike light behind them. Thinking it might be Skittles or Rocketman, they slowed, only to find out it was Super Trooper who already had about 10 miles under his belt on the morning.

Fire was riding strong and shared she was in training for RAGBRAI and pushed the pace as the four riders made their way to the start. They all commented on how beautiful the morning was with a bit cooler temps and calm wind!

As they approached the start, they found Zyickkmone already in the parking lot showing off his new Cervelo! Oh, the humanity! That is one sweet ride! But what about the woodie?!?

How fleeting fame....
Zyckmaan, aka Fabio, on his
New Cervelo! Wow!

Zycckkmaann stated that he got such a great deal he could NOT, NOT buy it! He declared he was "saving money!" by buying it!

This is a great country!!! He was fast on the woodie! The legendary rider will be unstoppable now!!!

More riders poured into the start as Sharkman made sure there were over 15 so he would not need to remember names! Sharkman primed the peloton to great Gazelle Girl, the "Sweetheart of the Peloton" as she approached with an entourage of "other guys!" (see photo)

Among them were two celebrity riders! Yes, you heard that right, Bunkie! Not one, but two!

Skipper was back in the mix and riding right along side of him was none other than legendary Shark Minion, The Pirate! Oh, the humanity!

The Pirate had retired back in 2014 and was only returning now!!! Welcome back Pirate, you've been missed! It has been a long 5 years, but there was as spot in the peloton!

The count was upwards of 15, probably around 18 as Sharkman gave the history of th eBissell Kit (which was well represented on the morning) and how he wanted the Nation to behave themselves better on the days ride!  Skipper mentioned that he had not had time to sweep Kellogg Korner and that it was loaded with gravel, which it was. Everyone thought it was amazing that Skipper was still sweeping Kellogg Korner! Oh, the humanity! Thanks Skipper! The man, the myth, the legend!
The Skipper was back to lead the Nation!
Is this a great country or what?!?

Skipper led the mighty Shark Minion Nation through Galesburg, past the Klutch, and on to the first sprint as more riders jumped on, including the third Celebrity Rider (not technically*) Stingray making his season debut and his first ride with the Nation in some time!

Welcome back Stingray!

Sharkman and Skipper caught up on things before the Shark dropped back to press the flesh with his Nation.

No one seemed to want to lead our hero out, so he took it upon hizzelf to go to the front and shame someone into coming forward. It was not long before Falcon came up and Sharkman immediately latched on!

A bit later, Shark went around Falcon, thanked him and then took the sprint at a respectable 24.6 mph.

As the Nation headed north after crossing G Ave. for the first time, Zyccmone streaked forward on that Cervelo to take the next sprint! Wow! That is one fast bike!

The ride moved quickly through the col de Twin Lakes, past the col de No Name, the Yorkville Church, past Kellogg Korner (loaded with gravel) on through the Kountry Klub and on to the Rt. 43 Sprint where Cricket and Zyikcmoone fought it out.
Brewman still Number 1
on attendance!

Over the col de Norte, through the Holy Rollers and on to the low road to the inlet.

Once the Nation crossed the Digital Divide, Sharkman went up front and started a pace line that seemed to form for a short time until Gazelle Girl reported the wind was out of the west (what wind?) and the pace line needed to move clockwise rather than counter clockwise. Wait, what?

As the Sweetheart of the Peloton was shouting instructions to Minions that looked like deer had been caught in the headlights, Sharkman was shouting from the back of the peloton to just keep the present rotation.

Both were shouting so much, they could not hear each other and the Shark Minions looked like a bunch of cats looking for the mouse that got away in a room full of catnip.....suffice it to say it was not very pretty.......

As the shouting continued, the pace line spread out on the road just before Toesetter made his lead out move to take Gazelle Girl to her beloved win of the GGG Spot Sprint. It was a victory for America.

As the Nation headed to the final sprint, Sharkman went to the front AGAIN, as Hermster moved up on his left and said, "is it too early to go?" To which Sharkman stated, "No!"

Gazelle Girl arrives with the sun on her
shoulder and a cast of a thousand
"Other guys!"
Hermster went forward and took the speed up as Sharkman hung on his wheel.

They moved to around 24+ MPH and at the base of the final ascent, Sharkman took over, thanking Hermster as he passed. Two old guys pushing the pace because all of the youngsters wanted the win?!? Oh, the humanity.

Sharkman pulled as hard as he could as the horses started to come around him at the top.

The old Shark saw the Pirate moving up and he grabbed on to his wheel and held on for all he had.

As they bore down on the final tape, several riders were up near the front and sharkman began to get a second wind as he heard a loud "crack-snap" that made him think there had been an accident behind him!

He watched in both horror and amazement at what soon followed......
Gazelle Girl with Celebrity Rider, the Pirate
in her entourage!

Cricket, battling it out with Super Trooper and cast of thousands, torqued his bike hard to start his final sprint when is right foot came out of his pedal causing his bike to swerve to the left. Super Trooper (we think), was quick enough to move out of the way to keep from crashing but it also slowing him down.

Meanwhile, Cricket, in what can only be termed as one hell of a demonstration of bike handling skills, started to go down and it looked as though his rear wheel came up in the air. However, just as he seemed to be falling to his left, he was able to somehow keep the bike upright and still hammer down to take the final sprint!

Oh, the humanity!

What a finish!
Toast was ready, sans Bissell Kit!

New Season high average speed of 19.28 mph!

Cricket reported at the Press Conference that he had borrowed pedals and new cleats, so it was hard to determine the cause, but a good reminder that worn cleats need to be replaced as coming out of pedals can be a disaster for not only the rider, but all the riders around them in any sprint.

The paparazzi and tefosi went wild on the Champs le Galesburg and as Sharkman entered the Klutch, there was Skipper, who had bought the Koffee for the Nation and Andrew personally brought it to the Sharkman! This IS a great country!!! he thought as he sipped his first kup.

The Koffee flowed as Sharkman, Skipper and Pirate caught up with each other, shared stories of old and generally had a fantastic time! It was like the old days with these two back in the peloton!

Hoping they will both return soon!

Luckily, Fire had stuck around to pull the old Shark back to the Cove as the morning warmed up.

It was a great day to be a Shark Minion!

You won't want to miss this Saturday's edition of the KK-TdG!
