WHAT A DIFFERENCE 20 DEGREES MAKES!

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS MAD DOG?!?

LUCKY ONES RIDE BARRY-ROUBAIX!

ANOTHER MINION PUT ON THE DISABLED LIST!

DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR THE TOUR DE TAYLOR!

Belo News
April 22, 2017

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke bright and very cool over the Shark Cove, our intrepid Hero, the Sharkman was wondering it was something he had said......

The night before he received, yet another absence excuse from Mad Dog.

Sharkman Photobombing the Nation.
And not very well!
Two weeks in a row? What is going on?

However, he did know that he had some Minions to escort him to the start, but would head back.

Thought the temperature on the Shark Cove thermometer showed 40 degrees when the Shark got out of bed at 6 a.m., it was 38 when it was time to launch, making it difficult to pick out the kit for the day. Warm at the start usually meant too warm for the return trip back to the Cove.

Yeti Boy, planning to do the Yankee Springs Time Trail on Sunday morning, only wanted to ride over and back, but was still, about 10 minutes early to the Cove. As Sharkman was killing time to make sure he didn't launch before Nikeboy had a chance to ride on the scene, was pleased to see his show up at 7:30 a.m. - SHARP!

The three riders picked up Reb on the road, and then there were four!

Nikeboy and Sharkman took the lead as it was obvious that Reb and Yeti Boy did not want to leave their legs on the training road!

Actually, as Sharkman headed straight to the bathroom when he got to the start and when he came back out front, the three riders (Nikeboy had to head to a wedding up north) were already gone and heading back to Battle Creek.
Greyhound made his season debut
by buying the koffee! YES!

Sharkman found that 20-25 degrees difference in temperature makes a big difference in attendance, as one would guess.

Sharkman took a count of 14 (17 if you count Yeti Boy, Reb and Nikeboy) at the start, with 10-4, Sasquatch, and Greyhound were making their season debuts. Bounty Hunter, Padre (formerly John on his second Minion ride) and Kia Pet from Team Taylor were back, and Gazelle Girl and Toesetter were in the mix. Other riders included Wishbone, who is riding strong, Dragonfly, Wildman, High Yield and Toast.

After Toast warned everyone of a soccer tournament at the high school and to be mindful of traffic at the finish and it was determined there was no A group today, Sharkman lead the Nation out, looking back to make sure no one else had joined on.

As the Nation passed the Klutch, one of the Barista could be seen at the window counting the riders. After last week's numbers they wanted to be ready!

Sharkman worked the crowd as the Nation headed north out of town. Moving back and forth like he was running for office, he was feeling good!
Sasquash was back in the Nation!

Wildman pulled our hero out early, at the hill after HL, but emotions got the better of Sharkman and he steamed out front to take his honorary first sprint!

Since the Nation is still in Spring Season, and sprints aren't reported, fewer Minions jumped in for wins, but there were still sprints!

The Nation headed through the col de Twin Lakes, Yorkville Church, Kellogg Korner, the Kountry Club and on to Rt. 43 and pretty much stayed together and as riders are starting to get their legs back, there weren't any stragglers!

The Nation headed south after the ascent of the col de Norte, as Sharkman handed out sage advice to a couple of Minions, on retirement. Sharkman shared that it is the one job he turned out to be born for! Who knew! The old Shark went on to say his only complaint was that time was going way too fast, unlike his bike speeds!

The Nation had to cross the Digital Divide in two waves due to major traffic and as everyone was lamenting the fact that there was no light at his busy intersection.

Interestingly, the Nation formed up a dual pace line on the way to putting Gazelle Girl into position for her GGG Spot Sprint. With no shifts at the front, and a mild south wind in their faces, the Nation moved smoothly in this section leading up to the last sprint before the finish.
The joint was rocking and even Chia Pet and Padre
stuck around to be social!

Gazelle Girl worked her way to the front, despite pressure from Toesetter and Kia Pet, and put them and the peloton easily. It was a victory for America!

As the Nation headed down to the final sprint, a small group went to the front and stayed out there right up to the final ascent. The traffic at the finish turned out to not be a problem as the Nation started pouring past the final tape! It was a great ride with an average speed of 17.6 mph.

Those of you wanting to come out to ride, this is the time of year to get back into shape with the Nation. The speeds are picking up, so come on out now!

The crowds went wild on the Champs le Galesburg and our hero's headed to the Klutch.

The Nation was treated to Koffee from Greyhound and even Kia Pet and Padre stopped in.
High Yield and Wildman signing
a get well card for Stryker Guy!

Thanks Greyhound!

The discussion was lively, as the paparazzi and tofosi mobbed the riders for autographs.

For those keeping score, the Sharkman did ride home solo FOR THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW! Where in the world is Mad Dog?!?

You won't want to miss this weeks edition of the KK-TdG!

Hasting, Mi. - The Lucky Ones (those designated as retired or having the ability to take some time off from work) descended on their favorite gravel road extravaganza this past Tuesday afternoon for some sand, hills and sunshine!

Gazelle Girl organized a very nice ride that included Tow Truck, Brewman, Sharkman, Nut Job, who came down from Lansing where he is a professor at MSU.
Nut Job (file photo)

All 5 riders showed up on gravel/cross bikes and Sharkman was sporting a new rear cassette installed by Danimal at Custer Cyclery and he was very pleased with the results!

The Minions launched around 2:45 p.m. and the weather could not have been more perfect for the ride!

Tow Truck had a dinner that he had to attend, so could not stick around, but the remaining riders went to the Waldorf for some adult beverages and dinner. The double Coban was selling well, but Sharkman stuck with the Mocha Porter!

Unfortunately, no one thought to take photos! Oh, the humanity!

Big thanks to Gazelle Girl for organizing a great ride and organizing such great weather!

Viva bikes!

ANOTHER MINION PUT ON THE DISABLED LIST!

Belo News
Rainman! (file photo)
April 25, 2017

Shark Cove, Mi. - It was learned this week that another legend of the peloton, Rainman, had been put on the disabled list for the next 4-6 weeks! Oh, no, not another Minion!

Appears that while mountain bike riding out in Santa Cruz, California, the Rainman crashed and cut open his knee. The young rider described the injury as a cut that went down to the knee cap and it required 11 stitches to close.

Unfortunately, the wound may not have been properly cleaned at the med center that he went to in California and he has aquired a very bad infection. When he returned to Battle Creek and sought further medical attention there was a concern that they would have to re-open the wound. However, the antibodics kicked in, in the nick of time and he will not need further surgery. However, the knee is still swollen and he is being told it could be 4-6 weeks before he can ride again!

The mighty Minion Nation wishes Rainman a quick recover and they will be holding a spot in the peloton for him when he returns!

Unless it is raining, of course!

STRYKER GUY MAKES AN APPEARANCE AFTER SURGERY!

WISHBONE HAS A NEW RIDE!

LUCKY ONES” BARRY-ROUBAIX RIDE ANNOUNCED!

DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR THE TOUR DE TAYLOR!

Belo News
April 15, 2017

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke cool, but bright, over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, was troubled. The day before the old Shark had received a text from Mad Dog stating he was going to make the ride in the morning!

What the......?!?
Yes, Sharkman was there.......

Sharkman responded to the text that Mad Dog would be behind on the attendance streak to his arch attendance title enemy, Gazelle Girl, but he replied, “she knows already.” Mad Dog sounded defeated and with only three weeks into the young season.

Sharkman could not remember the last time he had made the ride to the start without Mad Dog and with Yeti Boy out of town, wasn't sure he would have an escort the following day.

However, later on Friday, Nikeboy and Reb texted that they would be joining in for the ride over!

It was actually warm enough to ride, sans tights and actually, the arm warmers came off pretty quickly as the day was warming up quite nicely.

As the three riders rode the thriving metropolis known as Galesburg, Kia Pet from Team Taylor road up. That could mean only one thing......there would be more Team Taylor riders at the start! Yes! Always good to have the Team Taylor riders in the mix!
Virgin Minion John (name TBD)
arrived with Team Taylor.

Ready for a few extra riders, Sharkman was pleasantly surprised when he saw the mass of riders gathering for the ride! In addition to approximately 6 Team Taylor riders, the count went to 28 rather quickly! Some riders hadn't been seen this year yet, like Tow Truck, Dreamboat, Catfish, LL Cool J, Nickhead, Mighty Monk, Easty and Toesetter! It was great to see them all gathering at the start!

Wishbone was back sporting his new Trek, built by our own Skittles from Trek Bicycles in Battle Creek! This bike is a beauty and Wishbone said he could tell who was more excited, Wishbone for getting a great new bike or Skittle for getting to build it! A very special bike for a very special rider! So good to have Wishbone back in the Nation!

As readers of Belo News are aware, when the crowd gets over 15, memory does not allow for the Editors to report every rider name and only leading out hero out to the first sprint, buying him koffee or doing something funny will get a Minions name in this publication.
Nickhead made his season debut!

Besides, there were some riders there who hadn't ridden in so long, Sharkman was forgetting their names!

It's hell getting old!

Sharkman counted 26 riders at the start and after a group photo and another safety talk, where the Shark explained the A and B groups, and also got Dreamboat to volunteer getting the A group on the correct course, even more riders rode in.

With the sound of riders clicking into their pedals, and the squeal of the crowd, Sharkman led the group out but looked back and saw another 10 riders join on to the group! No one seemed to be sure who they were as the long train rode past the Klutch. As a matter of fact, the peloton was so large, they all could not get through on one light change and the Nation had to wait for the second wave. With the added 10, and with Kid Doster joining on after the first sprint and heading to the A group, the final count on the morning was 39 riders.
LL Cool J. "Where is "the Promise?"

Luckily, there were enough riders for an A group and while 18 riders stayed on for the B, the remainder headed out on the A route at HJ Ave.

Gazelle Girl, Toesetter and then Wildman led our intrepid hero out to his honorary first sprint where he again, threw his Litespeed steed over the tape for the win!

As the train moved north, Kid Doster jumped in and wanted to know if it was the A or B group. When he learned it was the B Group, he decided to keep going and jump on with the A Group when they came north. Uh, go figure......

The riders spread out on the col de Twin Lakes and as they approached the light on Rt. 89 it was green, but the group was so spread out, the lead riders decide to play nice and wait. However, as the light was taking a very long time to turn, and the large group was blocking a car from activating the light, and argument ensued about going through the red light. In the middle of the heated discussion, one Minion took the initiative to go and away the Nation went! Oh, the humanity!
Toast was back, sporting his Shark
Minion Kit!

The speed picked, as usual, after the Yorkville Church, through Kellogg Korner, past the Kountry Klub riders scattered. But they all came back together at Rt. 43 and headed to the col de Norte.

At the base of the col de Norte, Zyckmann, riding his now famous, “Woodie,” had a flat tire. Most of the Nation had already climbed to the top of the col de Norte, but waited. Reb volunteered to go back to check and shortly after, the A Group came barrelling by with no signs of slowing down. LL Cool J did stop to look for another rider from the A Group who he hadn't seen since the Koffee Klutch.

When Zyckmann got to the top of the col de Norte, he was asked if anyone from the A group had stopped to help and stated they asked if they could help as the blew by, but no one stopped! Hee hee.

As the group headed towards the Holy Rollers, some riders fell off the back, but luckily, Nikeboy and Reb were on duty to make sure very Minion was accounted for. Big thanks to both riders for maintaining our motto of "we leave no Minion behind!"
Dragonfly was also in  his
Shark Minion Kit!

Sharkman worries when the group gets as large as this one, that he will miss someone getting shot out the back. Also, larger crowds tend to take the speed up, making it more likely that rideres will drop off the back.

After the Frona stop, Zyckmann had problems with his tire again and decided to head back home and change bikes. He wanted to get to the Klutch as rumors had spread that the legendary rider, that hero of the peloton, that rider who is known far and wide, Stryker Guy, was going to be at the Klutch after his surgery on his shoulder!

At the Digital Divide, there was some confusion as the Shark wasn't sure who had dropped off and who was just behind. Some said that some riders had gone back with Zyckmann. So the peloton moved ahead after a short wait.
Dot Dot Dash and Wishbone on his new Trek!
Hey, did Sharkman miss the memo on
Shark Jersey Day?

The speed steadied out and yet another nice pace line started up, which again, is unusual this early in the season and with the large number of riders.

Gazelle Girl, once again took the GGG Spot Sprint as a cheer went up in the crowd.

In the final assault on the finish, Wildman went to the front, with Gazelle Girl and Sharkman on his wheel and a cast of thousands in line behind them.

As the peloton crested the final ascent, Wildman backed off and Sharkman went to the front, to quickly be pasted by several riders and Wildman! Wildman was on fire on this bright morning!

The crowd on the Champs le Galesburg went wild as their hero's rode to the Klutch where even more cyclist from the A group were waiting.

True to his word, Stryker Guy was not only waiting, but was buying everyone the koffee! Is this a great country or what!?!
Toesetter was back in the Nation,
making his season debut!

The Klutch was rocking and the two lady Barrister's were running their legs off trying to keep up with demand as thirsty Minions ordered their Bottomless Joe's!

Lucky, Mad Dog wasn't there, as ordering his foo foo koffee would have slowed things down and it was a thirsty crowd! Oh, the humanity!

Everyone seemed to hang out a bit longer, listening to Stryker Guy sharing his story of “the crash” and the ensuing surgery to repair his clavicle.

So, what will happen this Saturday? Come on out and find out!

It is supposed to be dry, but cool so the start time will stay the same!
The man of the hour, and buyer of
the Koffee, Stryker Guy was
holding court at the klutch!

THE REAL OPENING DAY?
Sweetheart of the Peloton
under investigation?

DOUBLE YELLOW LINE VIOLATION?!?

STRYKER GUY ON DISABLED LIST?!?

DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER FOR THE TOUR DE TAYLOR!

Belo News
April 8, 2017

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke cool and bright over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman could hardly wait to bound out of his Shark bed! As the world of cycling knows, the old Shark missed Opening Day for the first time in his cycling career, which is a pretty damn long time!
Reb goes the distance!

The Sharkman quickly clicked on the coffee, padded down to the Shark basement to choose his wardrobe for the day, while checking the outside temperature, which was at 30 degrees. Whew, a bit chilly....

When he came up with his choice of kit, he looked again and the temp was down to a chilling 28 degrees!

Wait, what?

Back down to the Shark basement to choose another layer. It was one of those days where the old Shark was concerned he would be warm at the start and sweating on the way home. But none the less, he was ready to ride.

Maybe not as ready as Yeti Boy, who showed up 10 minutes early, while Mad Dog texted something about racoon sex waking up his dogs and he couldn't wait and he'd meet everyone on the road. Ah, Saturday mornings at the Shark Cove.
Yeti Boy deep in thought
before start!

The Sharkman and Yeti Boy headed out about 5 minutes early with the Sharkman telling Yeti to take it slow so they didn't build up a sweat before getting to the start. At 28 degrees, there wasn't too much of a chance of that, but Sharkman mentioned it anyway.

As the riders hit Watkins Road, the light of Mad Dog's headlight could be seen up the road, but Sharkman was worried they might miss Reb, who had stated he might make the ride to the start.

Before they got to Helmer, Reb came riding up and then they were four!

The ride to the start was uneventful, as the small peloton discussed what they did over the winter, while Sharkman shared how he had spent his Opening Day the previous week despite the fact they had all read it in Belo News!

As they arrived at the start, riders were already beginning to gather.

Paperboy and the Great Dane were unloading their bikes as Brewman rode in. Skittles, Dragonfly, Bissell Boy and finally Gazelle Girl rode in. Eleven riders in all were ready to help Sharkman celebrate HIS Opening Day!
Mad Dog administering pre-
ride advise.

Gazelle Girl then gave a blistering, but effective commentary on Bike Safety, which included stopping at Stop Signs, riding two abreast, getting over to the right when anyone shouted out “cars back,” etc. Way to go Gazelle Girl!

Sharkman led the train out of the station and downtown. He asked Reb if he was going to drop off, but he stated that he had decided to do the ride as they went past the Klutch, waving at their adoring fans.

Skittles and Gazelle Girl pulled Sharkman to his honorary sprint, that even included him throwing his bike across the line to take the sprint as a roar went up in the peloton.

Yes, the season was now officially underway! Is this a great country or what!?!

Being Spring Season, there are no reports on sprints, but the ride was spirited despite the fact it was at a B level pace.

At the Northville Church, Sharkman and Yeti Boy went back for stragglers and also slowed as Bissell Boy, who was heading north for the day, dropped off at his house.
Bissell Boy was in attendance.

As the sun began to warm the course, the riders revelled in the early Spring weather and the chatter level elevated as the riders hit the Holy Rollers.

The group stayed together through the inlet and after the Digital Divide, Yeti Boy started out a very nice pace line as the group was able to play nice, which is unusual this early in the season.

As the fast moving train headed towards the GGG Spot Sprint, riders started shouting out “where is she!”

Soon, Gazelle Girl got the message and began to make her move to the goal!

However, unbeknownst to her, Skittles, who was in the led, had a rear camera on his bike and filmed the “Sweetheart of the Peloton,” as well as Mad Dog, cross the double yellow lines as Gazelle Girl made her “shot out of a cannon” move!

Oh, the humanity!

An investigation was immediately launched into this egregious violation and the Commissioner of Cycling is reviewing the tape. Subsequent investigative efforts by Belo News resulted in getting a copy of the tape. In this, “never before seen video” the evidence does seem to be pretty clear. (where else can you get hard hitting, behind the scenes, investigative cycling news?! Is this a great country or what?!?).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuKlbDG6KAM&feature=youtu.be

The Commissioner is looking at possible penalties, up to and including purchasing koffee for the Sharkman!

Belo News reports, YOU decide!
Skittles "selling it!"

As the peloton moved into the final sprint, Paperboy, Gazelle Girl and Sharkman went to the front to pull the train. As the fast moving nation moved towards the final ascent, Mad Dog came up and took the lead. As he began to pull away, Skittles came up to cover any breakaway, while Sharkman went up ahead to spell Gazelle Girl, who had taken over for Paperboy.

After a while, Yeti Boy came up to give Sharkman a spell, while Mad Dog, Skittles and then Brewman opened up a lead.

The Nation was split into small groups all over the finish as they moved to the final tape.

Average speed for the ride was only 17 mph (actually, 16.9), but not bad for early season and waiting for some riders.

The fans went wild on the Champs le Galesburg as the Nation zipped up their jersey's and rode past the tofosi, paparazzi and woman throwing flowers, loaves of bread and bottles of wine to them!

Ah, it was good to be back after a long winter.

As they arrived at the Klutch, Andrew welcomed the Nation back as he had missed Opening Day AND stated he was some how dropped, off the distribution list for Belo News! Wait, what?!?

 That will be fixed immediately!

It was a great to be back at the Klutch as the riders quaffed down their Bottomless Kups of Koffee and talked about what a great ride they had all been on.

Sharkman, Mad Dog and Yeti Boy enjoyed a nice tail wind on the way home and all was well in the Shark Realm once again!

You won't want to miss this week's edition of the KK-TdG!

The weather looks to be warmer, but there is a chance of rain, so if it is raining, watch for information here at Belo News!

Since it is warmer, Launch Time will be moved up!

STRYKER GUY CRASHES, PUT ON DISABLED LIST!!!

Belo News
Stryker Guy and we hope he is
on a Stryker Bed!
April 9, 2017

Somewhere, Ga. - Belo News regrets to report, that Legend of the Peloton, that rider who rode across the entire United States last year, without injury, crashed the past weekend as he descended a mountain somewhere in Georgia.

As Stryker Guy reported, he “felt the need to visit the hospitals in our great country as a patient.”

Descending down a technical, very steep switchback, he over cooked a turn and was too low to hit the next switchback. He hit his disc brakes and reported that “for the record, they do grab!” The back wheel locked up and he baled into a small clearing. Though his bike came out of the crash without a scratch (is this a great country or what?!?) he did not.....(Oh, the humanity)!

Stryker Guy suffered a broken clavicle, six broken ribs and a small puncture in his lung.

WOW!

The Nation is in mourning, but will be with the legend in their thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

The Nation will be holding a spot in the peloton for Stryker Guy and hope he is back soon!
