Shark Cove, Mi. - The reports began trickling into the BN News Room on Tuesday afternoon.

Up until that point, there had been no reports of what had happened during this weeks edition of the Koffee Klutch Tour de Gull and inquiring minds wanted to know if there had been a ride, how many showed up, the usual "stuff."

First, Hoosier Boy reported in that he had experienced a flat tire near the Rt. 43 stop and stated that Mad Dog, Cannon, Stingray and Brewman stayed with him to get him back to the Klutch.  When asked how many riders had taken part in the ride he replied that he would guess between 15-20. In answers to questions from Belo News, Hoosier Boy wanted to make sure that the Minions who stayed with him were recognized and he was appreciative that they got him back to the Klutch!

A later report stated that the lead  groupo had lost the flat tire Minion Group after the col de Norte and called back to the second group on a cell phone to make sure they were O.K. but got no answer.

CHALK TALK - When Minions are missing, the Nation goes back to find them! Remember, we leave no Minion behind and we thank Brewman, the Cannon, Mad Dog and Stingray for staying back.  It is also important for Minions who experience a mechanical make sure they shout it out and if riders are dropping off to go home or back, to let the Nation know it.  Remember, "We leave no Minions behind!"

Belo News is pleased to report that Gazelle Girl reclaimed the GGG Spot sprint in an incredibly slick move as she realized no one was getting positioned for the sprint and she went by quickly, pedaling her you know what off to take her name sake sprint. She was quoted as saying "It was a victory for America!"

Belo News has also learned that Mad Dog won the second group sprint but no report was received concerning the lead group and who won.

Belo News also is aware that the second group made it back to the Klutch to enjoy a kup with Toast,
Gazelle Girl (file photo)
the Green Hornet, B-Rod and Gazelle Girl, who was feeling so good about her GGG Spot victory, (and the fact there were only 3 riders with her) bought the koffee! Is this a great country or what?!?

This week, the Sharkman returns and you won't want to miss Tony the Tiger Jersey Day!

That's right, it will be Tony the Tiger Jersey Day so break out the kit and be there!

It will also be June 1 and the start time will be moved to 8:00 a.m. for the summer!

Remember, Sharkman will be launching from the Cove at 7:00 a.m. for those Minions riding over to the start with our hero!

STRYKER GUY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM MARATHONING!
Stryker Guy retires from Marathoning!

Belo News
May 25, 2013

Traverse City, Mi. - Some Minions took part in the Bayshore Marathon this past Memorial Day weekend and Dr. Dave was on hand to cheer on his lovely wife Michelle and also report in on the progress of Minion Legend, the Stryker Guy.  Seen here in this accompanying photo, Dr. Dave reported a "Stryker Guy sighting" at 11 miles and stated Michelle was doing well!

Regular readers of Belo News know that the Sharkman has been riding Styker Guy about all of this marathoning silliness and how he should be getting back to the peloton full time.

Dr. Dave cheering on Michelle!
Well Stryker Guy shocked the marathoning world by announcing his sudden retirment from future marathons much to the Minions joy!

Stryker Guy was so intent on making it official, the following video of the press conference has been posted and all Minions will be joining us here at Belo News in celebrating  that the Legend will now be back in the peloton on a more regular basis!

Stryker Guy announcing his retirment!

Congratulations Styker Guy on the marathon AND the retirement!
Congratulations to Michelle on her marathon!  The Nation would love to have you in the peloton as well!

TOUR DE TAYLOR JUNE 15, 2013

B-ROD LOOKING FOR OTHER MINIONS TO RIDE

Belo News
May 229, 2013

Galesburg, Mi. - Last year was the inaugural of the Tour de Taylor ride and several Minions, including Sharkman and Lava Girl took part.  This is a fund raiser for Team Taylor and their quest to raise funds for the Make a Wish Foundation and the WAM ride coming up in July.  Many of the Nation are also members of Team Taylor and our own Sharkman has ridden with the team on the WAM three times.

Because of the close relationship of the mighty Minion Nation and Team Taylor, there will be no ride on June 15, 2013 so the Nation can take part in this great ride!

Unfortunately, Sharkman cannot ride this year due to a family obligation in Illinois, but he is encouraging the Nation to go to the attached site and sign up today because B-Rod is looking for other Minions to do the 62 (100K) ride with.  Last year many of the Nation rode the 62 mile ride together and reported having a great time followed by an incredible catered lunch.  There are also 12 and 31 mile courses.

So B-Rod will be looking for other Minions at the start and next week, we hope to report a meeting place and time for the Minion launch, but don't wait Bunkie, sign up now!

The mighty Minion Nation!

BISSELL BOY RETURNS!

THE WEATHER BRINGS OUT THE NATION!

BISSELL BOY CONSPIRACY CONTINUES?

YETI BOY DOWN! YETI BOY DOWN!

KOFFEE RETRACTION?

Belo News
May 18, 2013

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke bright over the Shark Cove, our hero threw back the shark bedspread and padded out to the shark kitchen to get his beloved coffee going.  The Sharkman was excited as several Minions had informed him they would be riding over with him on this beautiful, sunny morning.

As he was sipping his second cup of coffee and getting ready to put on his kit, his Shark iPhone sounded out the theme from Sherwood Forest indicating a text had arrived.  Who could it be?  The weather was perfect, little wind, certainly a Minion could not be canceling?  Or could they?

Earlier in the week, Wildman had texted the old Shark stating he planned to ride from Galesburg to the Cove and ride to the start with the Shark Cove contingent.  Said he wanted to get a "massive" ride in before taking a long business trip. Sharkman had advised Wildman that launch time was 7:30 a.m. - SHARP but that if he ran late, they'd pick him up on the road, sure that the venerable Wildman would make the early call!

Au contraire, mon ami!

The text was, in fact, from the Wildman and stated, "Couldn't get my sorry ass up in time, I'm a wimp!" to which Sharkman responded, "Yes you are!"
B Rod sporting the new Bell's Jersey!

However, as the garage door creeped up, Sharkman noticed life at the Rainman residence as Mad Dog came riding up.  Though Sharkman and Mad Dog did have to wait on the Rainman's preparation, they did launch just after 7:30 and were met on the road by Nike Boy, who was once again, nicely accessorized in his black and white Pearl Izumi kit with neon green socks to match his neon green Sidi Road Shoes. Belo News may have a new, and for real, Style Guy!

With the Minion escort, Sharkman cruised to the start were riders were massing for the start.  As is the policy of Belo News, when the ride numbers get over 15, it can become very difficult to identify all the riders and on this fine, sunny morning, 28 riders were on hand to get things going either at the start or jumping on during the ride.

Nikeboy doing the Sun Salutation!
Nikeboy was caught on film doing his "pre-ride yoga" routine "downward dog" or the "sun salutation" or whatever and looking dapper in his kit for his loving tofosi.

Some Minions were making their season debut Minion ride like Kid Gallagher, Chico, who was back from his world Rugby tour, and a long time Team Taylor Rider, first time Minion rider, Mo Pink!

Welcome to the mighty Minion Nation Mo Pink, great to finally have you in the peloton!

Everyone was pleased to see the "Real" Bissell Boy back in the peloton, sporting the new Team Bissell Kit.  As a matter of fact, the new kit quickly called out the Wildman, who was in the
Welocme Mo Pink!
old Bissell Kit, hence easily identified as yet, another impostor!

Sharkman started the train slowly, working the crowd like a Chicago politician and joking about the big turn out.

Is there anything more fun than a bunch of riders cruising down main street Galesburg? Is this a great country or what!?!

Luann was at her post cheering the Nation on with a look of worry in her eye as she counted the mass of cycledom riding by.

B Rod lead our hero out before Hossman took over and the speed started to pick up.

Ironman jumped into the mix as the nation headed north, as did Dr. Dave, followed by Gazelle Girl who was greeted by the Nation in the usual manner with a resounding "Gazelle Girl!" that was heard around the countryside!

Bissell Boy returns to reclaim his identity!
Kid Gallaher, showing early season form, came up to the front to take the venerable Sharkman out to the honorary Sharkman sprint and he was feeling good enough to take the speed up to 28 mph!

Sharkman did the count as the mass of Minions crossed G Ave. and the total came to 27, but at the first curve in the run up to the sprint before the col de Twin Lakes, Kid Doster joined on!

The now 28 Minions blew apart on the col de Twin lakes, coming back together for the Rt. 89 crossing and the dreaded Kountry Klub section of the ride.

Tow Truck was in strong form once again and took the lead out with the Nation on his wheel.  Again, the sprint really didn't get going until after the turn to Rt. 43, but when it got going, it was every Minion for themselves!
Chico back in the Nation!

The Nation was firing on all cylinders on this fine day and there was no waiting at the top of the col de Norte and the train hung together until Kid Gallagher and Ox jumped off near their homes and the Nation got into the Holy Rollers and on to Frona's.

An attempt was made after the Digital Divide to form up a pace line, but any resemblance to a pace line was purely coincidental.

Sharkman, getting bored at the back, attacked at the GGG Spot, but that only caused the Nation to pick up the speed as he watched Mad Dog and Gazelle Girl fight it out for the win.

As the Nation headed south, Sharkman saw Hossman go to the front to take his usual massive pull.  The old Shark hung on to Hossman's wheel as he watched the Nation forming up in his rearview mirror.  Several riders came up to the front and then Iceman pulled over in front of Sharkman and told him to hang on!  It looked as though good ole Iceman was going to try to put the old Shark in position for a possible win!  Tow Truck came forward and pulled for a while as did some other riders.

The old Shark felt he was in great position as the Minions headed up the final ascent to the finish.  Iceman indicated to him to get ready just as the Nation put the pedal to the medal and ended any chance the Sharkman might have in the sprint as he and Iceman got boxed in.

The Nation has been pretty good about holding lines the past few weeks, but there were a couple of riders who were moving across the lanes during the sprint.  One rider cut across in front of the Sharkman and caught his wheel and as B Rod commented later, he thought for sure the old Shark was going down.  However, the Sharks wheel got a grazing blow from the side and he was able to get control without taking B Rod out.

CHALK TALK - Remember that in the final sprint you cannot move back and forth across the path of other riders and must hold your lines! This means that you should never come back into the peloton when you get outside, or try to cut across the peloton when you are boxed in.  If you are boxed in, you may have to just ride it out.

Iceman, who was able to pull away from the pack, took the Cannon at the line with Airman taking the third spot on the podium!

Average speed on the ride was 19.9 mph!

Cloud Girl, Airman and Maddie!
As Sharkman approached the finish line, he saw the legendary Zickman at the finish trying to video the finish!  He was surrounded by a number of fans who were a buzz over his wooden ride.  Unfortunately, Zickman got so busy showing off the wooden bike, he didn't get the video of the astounding finish!

Oh, the humanity!

The tofosi and paparazzi went wild as all the riders flooding the Champs le Galesburg!

The Nation was excited to see the now famous Zickman's wood bike leaning up against the Klutch as they approached and the Klutch was loaded with celebrities when they arrived!

Zickman even bought Sharkman his koffee!  Is this a great country or what?!?

As the riders walked in they were greeted by their own Cloud Girl and new daughter Maddie!  They had come in to sign autographs with Maddie's Dad, Airman, but Maddie seemed to be getting all the attention.  What a cutie!

The Klutch was jumping with all the riders who stopped for their Kup of Joe and they kept Luann busy behind the counter as the press fired questions and Sharkman played with Maddie!
Sharkman and Maddie playing for the crowd!

Unfortunately, Sharkman cannot make this weeks ride, but the KK-TdG goes on!  Hopefully someone will write something up (and give the old Shark a break!)!

Yeti Boy wondering where he is!
May 16, 2013

Ft. Custer, Mi. - Belo News is sad to report that our intrepid hero's wing man, Yeti Boy, took a header during a mountain bike ride at Ft. Custer this past week and sustained a pretty bad concussion along with some road rash.

Sharkman reported that he and Yeti Boy, along with new Minion, Reb, were cruising through Grannies Garden when the three got separated.  When Sharkman came out of Grannies, followed by Reb, they stopped to wait for Yeti Boy and when he did not come out for a couple of minutes they headed back in.  They did not go far before they found Yeti riding out with a face that looked like it had been through a meat grinder along with another rider who stated, "he took quite a header!"  That rider went on and was not available for comment.  Amazingly, Yeti Boy wanted to keep riding and Sharkman and Reb had to convince him to go back to the trail head where they realized he had a concussion when he asked them how they got there!  Well, that and the huge bump on his forehead.

It is theorized he hit his head on the handlebars between his helmet and his left eyebrow and the road rash may have come from the stem of his handlebars or when he went down as he only had a bit of dirt on his shoulder and a bruise and big bump on his right arm.  It did not look like he had fallen at speed but he had no recollection of the crash or even going out to the Fort.  Actually, he kept reporting that he had chipped a tooth and "that sucks!" for the next few hours.

Sharkman took Yeti Boy to the emergency room for a CAT Scan and an Xray on his arm and was very relieved to learn he was O.K. but that it would be a while before his short term memory returned.

Sharkman also learned from the doctor (ANOTHER CHALK TALK) that when someone get's their bell rung like that, you have about 2 hours to get them in for medical attention otherwise they either die or live.  The only way to know is a CAT scan and when in doubt, take the person even if they do not want to go.

Get well Yeti Boy!
The Nation sent Yeti Boy a "Get Well" text from the Klutch and Belo News is very pleased to report that he is doing well and will be back on the bike as soon as the rain stops!

The Nation will hold a spot in the peloton for you Yeti Boy!

Get well soon Yeti Boy!

Belo News Apologizes to Kia Pet!

Belo News
May 22, 2013

Shark Cove, Mi. - Belo News would like to offer an apology to that lovable rascal, Kia Pet.  Last week we mistakingly reported that Iceman had bought koffee for our intrepid hero, the Sharkman when, in fact, it was Kia Pet!  Iceman had stated pre-ride that he was going to buy koffee for the old Shark but Kia Pet beat him to it at the Klutch, so our apologize and let it go on the record that it was actually Kia Pet.  Iceman tried to buy again this week and got beat by Zickman!  But don't worry, the Sharkman says everyone will get a chance to buy him koffee at some point this summer!

BISSELL BOY CONSPIRACY?

Belo News
May 22, 2013
Wildman as Bissell Boy? Conspiracy!

Galesburg, Mi. - The Bissell Boy impersonator controversy continued this past week when yet another rider showed up trying to "be like Bissell Boy" despite the fact that the real Bissell Boy was in attendance.  Attorneys from Team Bissell Boy immediately filed, yet another, protest with the Commissioner of Cycling.  Additionally, stories began to emerge about the possibility of a conspiracy in these series of impersonators as each week, it seems to be a different rider including one rider who was reporting in from Europe?  Coincidence?  Belo News thinks not!

Are these riders contacting one another attempting to coordinate these attacks?  Belo news will not rest until they get to the bottom of these allegations, conspiracy's and reports!

Frightening thought, eh?

Valls, Spain - Hope the Minions had wonderful weather, because it was cold as hell and rainy here in Spain.  But true to the Minion ways, it did not stop me from exploring the Spanish country side.  Yesterday's ride netted 52 miles and 1200 feet of elevation.

Today was 66 miles and 2400 feet elevation.  Instead of that warm brew from the Koffee Klutch, I am sucking down another bottle of Rioja Vino!! (You go Pirate!)

New jersey?
Note: I did bring more than one jersey!  It’s the shorts that are getting a bit stiff! (More information than the Minions might have cared for….)

As the Brits says………..“Pip Pip Cherio!!!!”

TEAM TAYLOR RULES!
More Bissell Boy wanna be's!

BOFFO SIGHTING!

ADDITIONAL BISSELL BOY IMPERSONATOR ALLEGATIONS?

PIRATE FILES ANOTHER TOUR DE FRANCE REPORT!

It's Decided!  Kia Pet it is!

Belo News
May 11, 2013

Shark Cove, Mi. - As the shafts of sunlight began to shed a soft glow on our hero, the Sharkman's bed, he awoke thinking about how cold it might be on the field of dreams every Minion has come to know as the Koffee Klutch Tour de Gull.  It appeared that cold weather had come back to paradise and though not as cold as previous weeks, none the less cold.

As the garage door lifted at the Cove, Nikeboy was waiting to ride over to the start and moments later, Mad Dog rolled in, but no Rainman.

Hoosier Boy returns with Starbucks!
The old Shark wore his rain cover over to keep warm, but quickly shed it when he found he was sweating as he and his companions glided up to the start where Ranger Rick and Hoosier Boy were waiting.  Yes, Hoosier Boy had returned to the peloton to make his season debut after riding through the drive up window at a Starbucks.  The man actually pulled the coffee from his water bottle cage and sipped with a grin.

Nikeboy had to head back to unfortunately attend a funeral, but he was added into the count for the ride anyway!

Moments later, the Team Taylor contingent arrived led by the Iceman himself along with Nickhead and Kia Pet.  They had brought along DPS, who apparently attended the Minion ride last year when the nation had to turn back due to incredible lightening.  This would be his official full ride, so welcome DPS!

Squeaky, Styker Guy, Brewman, Sasquatch, Toast and Wildman were in attendance and Belo News
Iceman, Kia Pet, DPS & Nickhead arrive!
started to lose count after that.

Sharkman was pleased to note that no Minions arrived at 8:28 a.m. and the train was ready to pull from the station at 8:30 a.m. - SHARP!

Luann was at her post and shouted out "Stay warm!" to the passing Minion Nation.

As the train headed north, they were greeted by Gazelle Girl as she rode up to her expected cheer from the peloton!

Ranger Rick and Hoosier Boy were quick to lead our hero out and then Kia Pet came up and almost blew Sharkman off his wheel, but managed to get our hero to the sprint with room to spare.

Hoosier Boy and Squeaky stretching before the ride!
Squeaky took the sprint in the run up to the col de Twin Lakes and Mad Dog blew the field away on the col de Twin Lakes climb to take the next sprint.

As had happened in the previous week, the Nation rode through the Yorkville Church/Kellogg Korner/Kountry Klub section in a nice pace line before a group split off the front at the turn.

As the Nation made the turn on to the road to Rt. 43, Ranger Rick and Mad Dog lead out with Nickhead and Sharkman hanging on for dear life.  Ranger Rick pulled hard before Mad Dog took over and Nickhead stayed with him before making his move.  Sharkman reached into his suitcase of courage and sat in behind Nickhead waiting to make his move.  Nickhead had closed the gap to Mad Dog and Ranger Rick and was riding on the rivets as Sharkman made his move and nipped him at the line to take the sprint!  Sharkman gave Nickhead a big thanks for the lead out as they climbed the short, steep hill up to the  Rt. 43 stop sign.

As the peloton came back together at Rt. 43 Gazelle Girl offered some "chalk talk" concerning group etiquette that Belo News felt should needed to be shared with the Nation.

Gazelle Girl mentioned that she was somewhat "cooked" as the speed picked up in the Kountry Klub section and caught her off guard at the back.  She stated that Iceman had come around her and then came in front so that she could grab his wheel to catch back on to the peloton.  As veteran riders all know, if you lose that wheel in front of you it can be extremely hard to get back on to the group.

Iceman hizzelf!
Smooth move by Iceman, always a class act, and a reminder to the Nation that the Minions are all for one and one for all!  Sharkman also mentioned that it was good to see that the Nation must have read some of the blog as the circling in intersections and early crossings have stopped.

There was no stopping at the top of the col de Norte as the Nation was riding smooth and together on this beautiful sunny spring morning that was warming up nicely.

The Minions stayed together through the Holy Rollers and as the Nation rode up to Frona's, Hossman came out of the restaurant to say hello, sans bike!  He was enjoying a nice breakfast with his family. Mmmmm wondering if he bought an extra pair of road shoes to leave there? (see last weeks edition)

The Nation formed into a pace line after crossing the Digital Divide and it turned into a horse race at the end where Iceman and Nickhead fought it out with Iceman taking the GGG spot by a fine frogs hair. Nickhead was saving something for that last sprint!

Sharkman reminded the group to make sure they held their lines as they headed to the finish.  He was again worried about a group finish and the accompanying possibility of crashes.

Mad Dog, Ranger Rick, Iceman  and others jumped out to take the front but the group seemed to want to stay together until Sharkman decide to throw himself on his sword and shot to the front.

Sharkman quickly opened a big gap back to the peloton and as he looked in his Shark rear view mirror and as he started wondering, "why aren't they coming after me?" he realized the they all KNEW they could reel the old Shark back in.  The peloton didn't seem at all worried.....

As Sharkman scrambled up the final hill and began to gas out, the peloton quickly caught our hero and went by him like he was standing still!

As the Nation bore down on the final sprint, Nickhead went to the front to battle it out with Toast and Brewman and that is how it finished!  A victory for Team Taylor and revenge for Nickhead on the day!

Average speed for the ride was clocked at 18.6 mph but everyone seemed to feel it was faster.

The tofosi and paparazzi went wild on the Champs le Galesburg as the heroes marched home to the Klutch for the press conference.

Sharkman & Boffo the Clown!
The Nation was pleased to find none other than Boffo, that irascible clown, signing autographs and pleasing the crowd with, well, clown stuff!  Actually, Boffo has been out of the peloton so long that if he came back he would be considered a celebrity rider!  As he sat down, Toast baptized him with his koffee creamer but fortunately it didn't seem to stain Boffo's clown outfit.

Iceman bought koffee for our hero and then gave a brief description of the upcoming Tour de Taylor Ride on June 15 (more on this below).

Discussion turned to the name contest for Kia Pet.  Gazelle Girl shared how much she liked that name over Lizard Man and the Nation seemed to agree.  Actually, the general contention was that a name like that could act as a real "chick magnet" if you get our drift.

Sharkman, never one to beat around the bush, and not having received any checks for $50, put it to a vote right then and there.

The vote was unanimous and therefore the name Kia Pet is now set in Minion Lore!  Is this a great country or what?!? Ya gotta love a name like Kia Pet!

You won't want to miss this weeks edition of the KK-TdG!

ADDITIONAL ALLEGATIONS OF BISSELL BOY IMPERSONATORS ROLL IN!
Who are these guys? Don't they look just like Bissell Boy?

Belo News
May 11, 2013

Galesburg, Mi. - More allegations have come into the Commissioner's Office concerning the blatant impersonating of the legendary rider, Bissell Boy.  It appeared that not only Sharkman had been observed in the attempt, but now Iceman and Stryker Guy were jumping on the band wagon, both claiming that they "want to be like Bissell Boy."

Apparently there is a major concern in the Nation that Bissell Boy is not returning to the peloton and this is a poor attempt by some delusional Minions to placate the thought of no more Bissell Boy.  However, Belo News has confirmed his return and can assure everyone that he will be back soon, though he could not be reached for comment this week.

Could he be out at the Amgen Tour of California with the Bissell Team?  They have been outstanding the past few days taking the King of the Mountain jersey and being in several break aways.  Bissell Rider Chris Baldwin, who was raised in Battle Creek, was out in front of the peloton most of today's stage.

The race is being televised daily at 5 p.m - 7 p.m. on the NBC Sports network.

Belo news will stay with this breaking story to continue to report on any and all allegations concerning the ongoing epidemic of Bissell Boy impersonating!

The Pirate in Spain!

Valls, Spain - Another great weekend from Spain.  140 miles in 3 days plus 1800 feet elevation change.  Tried my hand at climbing the big one with 10% grade but just ran out of fuel, had to walk twice. Oh well it is only preparation and motivation when I really get into the mountains.

Pirate signing off from Spain!

(It should be noted that the Pirate did bring another jersey AND he has apparently stopped impersonating Bissell Boy after being contacted by Bissell Boy's European Legal Counsel.)

BATTLE CREEK NAMED A "BIKE FRIENDLY CITY!"

Belo News
May 13, 2013

Battle Creek, Mi. - This is Bike Week and no better time to learn that Battle Creek has been named a "Bike Friendly City" by the League of American Bicyclists!  Our hero, the Sharkman, has been involved in a City Committee to achieve this designation and after submitting the very detailed application, Battle Creek was given "Honorable Mention" so that they can now begin working for greater status on the tier level of Bronze, Silver, Gold and a new level of Platinum.

Between now and July 1, 2013, the League will work with the City to determine what steps need to be made to move to the different levels. Only 6 Cities in Michigan have this designation and now Battle Creek is among them!

Congratulations Battle Creek!

TUESDAY NIGHT CHAIN GANG REPORT!

Belo News
May 7,2013

Battle Creek, Mi. -  The winds were blowing Tuesday night and that can only mean it is time for the Tuesday Night Chain Gang Ride!

Sharkman and Airman arrived early and had concerns that they were the only riders who would be in attendance to fight the crazy winds.  Airman was really nervous as Sharkman reminded him that as a Minion it was his duty to do most of the pulling.  Airman was saved as Mad Dog showed up and the trio started out west into the wind.

As they rode, they quickly realized the wind was mostly out of the north and actually seemed to be helpful both west and east!

Riding at a nice pace they zipped by the Tuesday Night Time Trail course where it looked like they were having a record breaking night full of riders who were being attacked by a mass of mosquito's!

Hutch and Nikeboy were in attendance and Nikeboy actually passed the pace line as the Minions rode along.

Despite only three riders and the wind, the trio was able to turn in a 20.6 mph average on the night!

If you like to work on speed and pace line technique, this is the ride for you!

Tuesday Nights!

TOUR DE TAYLOR JUNE 15, 2013

Belo News
May 11, 2013

Galesburg, Mi.

Unfortunately, Sharkman cannot ride this year due to a family obligation in Illinois, but he is encouraging the Nation to go to the attached site and sign up today.  Last year many of the Nation rode the 62 mile ride together and reported having a great time followed by an incredible catered lunch.  There are also 12 and 31 mile courses.

If enough Minions are interested Belo News will list at time so that the Nation can ride together so watch Belo News for more information.

Tour de Taylor is coming up on June 15th! http://www.tourdetaylor.org/

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke over the sleepy Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman was jumping out of bed and excited to get moving on the morning.  The weather was just about perfect and Rainman had assured him that he would accompany him on the ride over.  Additionally, Mad Dog, who is a perennial riding companion was also supposed to be in attendance.

As our hero was getting his trusty steed ready he noticed that Rainman's garage door had yet to open?

Lava Girl commented that the Rainman is young and probably just jumps out of bed, puts on his kit and climbs his bike moments before launch. (She also mentioned Sharkman can't do that anymore.......)

As the old Shark headed down the drive and saw Mad Dog approaching, it was becoming obvious that the Rainman Estate was quiet.

After a couple of loops in the street, the duo decided to go ahead without Rainman, who later showed up at the start stating he didn't realize the new launch time!  What part of NEW LAUNCH TIME - NEW LAUNCH TIME - NEW LAUNCH TIME did Rainman not read?

But we digress……

Nikeboys new shoes!
As Mad Dog and Sharkman were heading east into the rising sun they noticed a bright light ahead of them.  Actually, bright light might be an understatement as they had to shield their eyes despite having sunglasses on.  As they rode closer to the glare they realized it was none other than Nikeboy, sporting a new pair of neon green Sidi road shoes! Oh, the humanity.  After commenting that Nikeboy must be very confident in his manhood, Sharkman, sporting his red Giro, attempted to defend his comment.

As the threesome rode into the parking lot at the start, it was loaded with riders getting their steeds ready for the ride.  There was a buzz as more and more riders came in.

As regular readers of Belo News are well aware, after the number of Minion riders reaches 12-15, it can be difficult to list all the names of those in attendance.  Something about memory problems.....

After Airman and Mad Dog got a better look at Nikeboys shoes, Squeaky rode up wearing a new
The glare was blinding for Mad Dog & Airman
cycling jacket! Oh, the humanity!  The Style Guy himself had given up the Parachute/Safety Jacket that was so revered in the Minion Nation!  Say it ain't so!

Squeaky stated he'd heard enough out of the peloton and had taken his birthday money to buy the new, bright yellow jacket.  He did reassure Sharkman that he still had the Parachute/Safety Jacket, stating that you just don't through a great jacket like that away!

Thank God!

Ox and Boatman made their first appearance of the season with Boatman riding a new Pinarello!  He had purchased it from Danimal and it had been a Health Priority Team bike last year.  Boatman was styling on the new ride! Hey, isn't this guy fast enough? Does he really need to have a Pinarella? Oh, the humanity!

Squeaky in his new Jacket!
Stryker Guy rode in making is his first ride of the year, sporting a goatee/beard and wearing an Ohio State Jersey!

Two new riders, or should it be said, two new virgin Minions, rode in.  Nick, now known as Sasquatch (always smart to arrive with your own name) and Joe, name to be determined.

Welcome to the Nation, Sasquatch!
Welcome to the Nation Sasquatch and Joe!

Sasquatch mentioned that he got the name for growing a beard at an early age and thankfully did not mention any other body hair, while Yeti Boy got his name for his ability to climb and 13 shoe size!  As Yeti Boy says, "it ain't easy finding road shoes!"

Wildman also made his debut ride after promising the old Shark he was coming back the previous week and didn't! Oh, the humanity!

Speaking of shoes, just as the Sharkman was about to get things going, Hossman pulled in with about 2 minutes to get ready for the start.  His preparations were cut short when he realized he had brought the wrong cycling shoes!  Hard to ride those road clips with those mountain bike shoes.  Oh, the humanity, Hossman was out…..or was he?

All in all, about 19 riders were on the train as it pulled out of the station and buzzed by the Klutch
Wildman finally makes his debut!
where Luann was on post to get a head count.

As the Nation headed out to 36th St. to head north, they saw Rainman flash by, looking for the peloton.  He had hustled over from the Cove when he realized he had the wrong start time.

Riders began appearing on course with Dr. Dave making his debut appearance of the season. One of Belo News best reporters, it was good to have the Dr. back in the house.

A shout of "Gazelle Girl!" went up as she approached the peloton and Ironman, who was riding with her seemed a bit upset that in the excitement of greeting the sweetheart of the peloton, he was just so much chopped liver.

It was Ironman's debut ride of the year, but Gazelle Girl still got top billing. Sorry Ironman!

B Rod and Falcon led out our hero to the first sprint and after taking it, Sharkman attempted a count at the G Ave. crossing and it was believed there were 22+ riders on the bus.

It could not be determined if the "Safety Information" in last weeks Belo News, the concerns about the
Ox & Boatman on his new ride!
pace the previous week, or the fantastic weather caused it, but the entire peloton did not seem to be in any hurry and the conversation was lively and quite entertaining as the Nation headed through the col de Twin Lakes and past Gull Lake High School.

The usually, fast paced Kellogg Korner through the Kountry Klub did not take place and the sprint didn't rally start until after the turn to Rt. 43.  Several riders broke free and Sharkman rode the wheel of Falcon and Mad Dog before making a move on the right and thinking he had the sprint, noticed Tow Truck coming out wide to the left and nipping him at the line for the sprint. It was a Tow Truck kind of day!

At the top of the col de Norte it became very apparent that riders had actually paid attention to the safety information from the Sharkman in last weeks edition of Belo News.  As a matter of fact, the riders were all good about not crossing intersections early and there was a minimum of circling in the intersections!

"Look Sharkman, wrong shoes!"
To everyones surprise, waiting for the train at the top of the col de Norte was none other than Hossman, who had gone home, got his shoes and then rode out to meet the Nation!  He was quoted as saying, "I'm getting three pairs of road shoes. One for each car!"

As the Nation headed through the Holy Rollers, Sharkman put on a sprint and as he and Ironman were fighting it out, a guy on a Cannondale, pulling two cute kids in a bugger, came out of nowhere and stole the sprint from Ironman as he edged ahead of the old Shark. I this a great country or what?!?

The riders all came together at the Digital Divide and a fairly decent pace line formed up.  Getting up to nice cruise speeds, Gazelle Girl positioned herself perfectly for the GGG spot when Falcon made a move and stole the sprint at the tape.

As the mass of riders headed to the final tape, Sharkman was worried about a pack finish. Mad Dog took off and began to pull the pace line.  Just before the last hill to the finish, Rainman busted past the leaders to shouts from B Rod of "Oh, no!"

B Rod knew that if a gap opened it would be difficult to catch the young Rainman!
Tow Truck & Stryker Guy (with facial hair!)

The peloton went after him and at the top of the hill before the finish, Rainman, as though toying with the peloton, pulled aside and the racing began in earnest!

The Nation careened down the finishing hill as Tow Truck came to the front and stayed out there, with Falcon and B Rod on his wheel and Sharkman getting shut out of a podium finish!

Tow Truck takes the first "official" finish of the 2013 Season.

As Belo News had previously reported, some of the riders the previous week had complained of too fast a pace so early in the season and everyone was talking about how great the pace was this week.  The average speed for the prior week was 19.5 mph and the average for this ride was 19.4 mph.  Everyone seemed to think the difference was that the peloton stayed together more, waited to move to sprint later in each section, and riders weren't breaking off the front as much. Either way, everyone reported a great ride, particularly Tow Truck!

The tofosi and paparazzi went wild on the Champs le Galesburg as our heroes rode to the Klutch.

Stryker Guy needed to adjust his handlebars after getting bumped by Ironman on the col de Norte and Sharkman pulled out his 10 lb. Alien tool and he and Nikeboy helped Styker Guy get his handlebars back on straight for the ride home.

By the time Sharkman got into the Klutch he was relegated to the back of the line but was please to learn that his koffee had been paid for by good old Yeti Boy! Don't worry, everyone get's a chance to buy Sharkman koffee. It is a long season!

The discussion at the press conference seemed to center around the great pace of the ride but when Sharkman went to get more koffee one of the locals asked him if he could help adjust his new bike computer.  Sharkman stated he needed the instructions and the Klutch regular pulled them out of is pocket.  When the Shark asked what size wheel he had, he went out to his truck and brought the whell into the Klutch.  Luann gave the Sharkman a pin to reset the computer and, walla!  Sharkman had the computer set up and ready for installation!

However, when he worked his way back to his table, all the Minions were getting up to leave! The Sharkman reported it was like he missed the social aspect of the great ride!

Fortunately, the old Shark had Mad Dog and Nikeboy to pace him into the wind, back to the Cove.

You won't want to miss next weeks KK-TdG!

Launch Time - 8:30 a.m. - SHARP! DON'T FORGET YOUR SHOES!

THE PIRATE FROM SPAIN!
The Pirate and his new Minion in Spain!

Belo News
May 4, 2013

Valls, Spain - The Pirate, on location in preparation for the Tour de France, reported in this week that he had found a British riding partner in Spain who gave him quite a workout. After pushing the pace past 20 mph for the first 30 miles, the Pirate informed him that he was one Minion that was not taking the bait, though he was quite willing to ride his wheel for most of the ride!

When asked when he was going to start reporting on the Tour de France he simply stated, "after another cerveza!"

You go Pirate, you go!

MORE IMPERSONATOR ALLEGATIONS!

Belo News
May 6, 2013

Shark Cove, Mi. - On the heals of the allegations made against Sharkman attempting to impersonate his hero, Bissell Boy, a second complaint was filed by a reader of Belo News.  Much like calling out Tiger at the Masters, you just can't get away with this stuff when it is seen in Belo News!

Bissell Kit?
Sharkman in his Shark Kit!
As the complaint read, "How come Sharkman get's called out and not the Pirate?"  Yes, please note the past couple of file photo's of the Pirate from Spain.  Coincidence?  We think not!

We are hoping he brought more than one jersey to Spain for the summer!

Meanwhile, Sharkman has apologized to the legendary Bissell Boy and has gone back to his Shark attire!  Damn the Sharkman looks good no matter what he is wearing!

CELEBRITY RIDER JOINS THE TUESDAY NIGHT CHAIN GANG!
Mad Dog, Express Mail, Airman & Stingray.

Belo News
May 7,2013

Battle Creek, Mi. -  Regular riders of the Tuesday Night Chain Gang may remember a couple of summers ago when a rider who worked for the Postal Inspection Service who was in town on business, called Team Active looking for a Tuesday Night ride and heard about the Chain Gang.  He showed up and was immediately given the name "Express Mail."  Turned out he and Sharkman had some mutual aquaintances in law enforcement in Chicago, where his offices were and he asked to subscribe to Belo News and has been a regular reader and has stayed in touch ever since.

He was in town again on business and shot Sharkman an email to ask if he could catch on with the Chain Gang to which the Sharkman replied "once a Minion, always a Minions, come on out!"

So at 5:35 p.m. Mad Dog and Sharkman arrived at Kellogg HQ where Stingray and Airman were waiting, thinking the start was at 5:30 p.m. HEY Minions!  Read the Belo News which has all the start times!

Shortly after, Express Mail arrived and the crew agreed to attempt a more steady paced ride this week after last weeks leg burner.

The riders could tell it was summer as they rolled past the Team Active Time Trial going on at River Road where Nikeboy and Hutch were spotted in the mix.

Express Mail showed his stuff by taking major pulls and setting a nice steady pace in the Chain Gang.

As the group came to the final stretch, Airman took the first hard pull and peeled off, then Stingray, then Express Mail and finally Mad Dog and Sharkman cut the tape with an average speed of 20.8 mph, which was actually faster than the previous week but all the riders reported it seemed to be an easier ride. It was like watching a well trained time trial team!

Thanks for coming out Express Mail!

Another demonstration of how staying together in the group can actually create a faster pace!

If you like to work on speed and pace line technique, this is the ride for you!
