HEY, WAIT....WHERE WAS SHARKMAN?

RAIN? WHAT RAIN?

HEY, WAIT....NO SHARKMAN AGAIN?

BANJOVI BACK BY POPULAR

DEMAND?!? OH, YES!

Belo News
August 27, 2016
Gazelle Girl reporting:

Triple Nasty Rancho, MI. - Dawn broke over the Triple Nasty Rancho AFTER Gazelle Girl awoke to the strains of the BBC World Service on the clock/radio. (These shorter days are happenin' quick!) A check of the weather showed "iffy" conditions which can only mean one thing to the glass half full Sweetheart of the Peloton - we're on!

Minutes before Triple Nasty Launch Time, Mad Dog appeared at the back door to be sure Gazelle Girl was planning to saddle up. With a mouthful of toothpaste, she assured the disappointed Dog that she'd be ready to hit the road in a matter of seconds. (Disappointed? Yes! The Dapper Dan of the Peloton was truly hoping that her barking watchdogs would awaken the Sweetheart of the Peloton from a pleasant slumber assuming she would skip the ride due to the weather report. He would then make great fun of her [and her sleepwear] for weeks. Oh, SNAP, Mad Dog!)

A handful of Minions were found in the parking lot when the duo arrived. They were greeted by Nikeboy holding up his cell phone to show the colorful radar indicating rain, rain and more rain in the area. But - for now - no rain! Nikeboy wasn't to be cajoled into heading north, however. He turned tail and rode east back home - likely remaining dry and handsome as ever.

So, eight hearty Minions headed north. Brewman, Yeti Boy, Ironman, J-Dog, Greyhound, Mad Dog, Gazelle Girl and Mike (does Mike have a Minion name??) struck out on dry roads. The rain started about 10 minutes in and continued the entire ride - with the heaviest downpour occurring around Gull Lake, as is usual for the scenic area's individual ecosystem.
Visibility was at an all-time low. Road crud-covered glasses were peered over and rain soaked chamois drooped like poop-filled diapers when the riders stood to climb.

But good humor prevailed. Rumor had it that the short-lived Queen's Cupboard had closed the week before. Well, fear not folks, we will still have to share the parking lot with Saturday morning breakfast-goers. The Dandelion Cafe has fancy new signage in place and should be open soon. Discussion ensued about the bright idea of naming a restaurant after a weed. Thus, the place was quickly nicknamed the Weed Cafe, giving a whole new meaning to the term "edibles."

The sky brightened a bit as the troop headed south, but the rain continued. As such, the Klutch was not graced with the appearance of any Minions that a.m. Bluer skies are promised this Saturday as the weatherperson is currently predicting sunny and 70s. This is, indeed, a great country.

Wow! Thanks Gazelle Girl for this riveting account of what sounds like a wet and wild ride!

Also good to know that the Nation followed their credo of "We will ride in the rain, but not start in the rain!"

Unfortunately, Sharkman will be gone, yet again this week! Oh, the humanity!

What is with that guy!??

But the ride goes on!

Saturday, September 3, 2016 – Labor Day!

HEY, WAIT....WHERE WAS SHARKMAN?

CONSTRUCTION ON RT. 43?

HEY, WAIT....NO SHARKMAN AGAIN THIS WEEK?

OH, THE HUMANITY!

Belo News
August 20, 2016

Shark Cove, MI. - As dawn broke over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, wasn't there!
Wait, what? Where was our indomitable hero?
The only photo turned in.....
Thanks Hoosier Boy!

Unfortunately, he had to go back to Wisconsin to attend a family funeral.....

However, on Friday morning he got a call from Stryker Guy reporting that the section on Rt. 43 that has been a neutral zone the past year was finally under construction and down to one lane! Oh, the humanity! Stryker Guy reported that he had an alternate route but it would add miles to the ride, especially for the A Group!

Holy Road Construction, Sharkman! What to do? What to do?

Sharkman, immediately went to his go to person, …..and contacted Gazelle Girl to work on a plan!

It was decided that the group should do the Southern route and Sharkman would try to get an email out to the Nation!

Good plan, however, it didn't work. Sharkman attempted to send a group message from his iPad, but because one of the addresses was no longer a working address, it would not send! Holy email Sharkman! What to do, what to do?

As the night went on, more messages came in from worried Minions about the construction site, warning of impending doom if that route was attempted! (God bless the Minion Nation and how they watch out for each other!)

Sharkman went to bed Friday night wondering what would happen to his beloved Minion Nation!

Oh, the humanity!

However, as the Nation now knows, Ironman showed up at the ride to report that the construction was completed and the normal ride could go on! Is this a great country or what!

No one turned in a write up, however the Sharkman did learn that there was again, a large number of Minions AND again, virgin Minions! Remember, if you invite a guest, you are responsible for that guest!

Guestimates put the number at approximately 30 and there was an A and a B Group for the day.

Two take aways on the morning.....

The B Group turned in an average speed of 19 mph and has to be reminded that it is a B Group and needs to be mindful of keeping the speed under 19 mph.

Secondly, the A Group had a flat tire and was unable to catch the B Group, which is NOT AN OBJECTIVE!

Speaking of OBJECTIVES, the objective is to have a great time, get a good work out and to be safe!

So let's be safe out there!

Only one picture was turned in by ace photographer, Hoosier Boy.......but it looked like the Nation again enjoyed the ambience of the Koffee Klutch!

Unfortunately, Sharkman will be gone again this week! Oh, the humanity!

But the ride goes on!

SIGHTING?!!

Belo News
August 13, 2016

Shark Cove, MI. - As dawn broke wet and stormy over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman bound from his bed in his Shark PJ's and hit the switch on his Shark Radar. The tube literally lit up with a multicolor display of color, flashing in his frowning face.
Virgin Minion Justin
(Name to be determined)

Sharkman hates those mornings when it isn't clear cut on canceling the ride. He knows that someone will want to ride but balances that against safety and comfort. He also has to make the call before 7 a.m. as the Nation begins to head towards the start if the ride isn't cancelled.

The Minions will ride in the rain, but will not start in the rain!

At approximately 6:13 a.m. Sharkman texted Mad Dog. “What do you think? Too wet?”

Within seconds, as though Mad Dog was waiting for the text, the response was transmitted back and read, “No red on the radar, fenders are on, so I'm riding!”

Sharkman had not choice and quickly replied, “C U @ 7 sharp!”

But as the old Shark headed out to get his steed ready, and the Cove Garage Door opened slowly, the raindrops could be seen hitting the driveway and he had a change of heart.

He texted Mad Dog back and stated he doesn't start in the rain, but would drive over to see if the break in the radar was correct. Plus, he would be picking up his Wingman, Yeti Boy.
Hoosier Boy at the start with his
pedals intact!

Sure enough, the rain let up and after picking up Yeti Boy, the two headed over to the start in the Shark Pilotmobile.

The two arrived early and no one was in the parking lot, however, shortly after parking they saw Toast drive through, apparently making sure someone was riding, and then drove down to park at the Klutch.

Slowly but surely, riders started gathering with only Mad Dog riding in. He reported the roads wet, but ridable. The rain had stopped and it was hoped that it had ended for the day.

Riders continued to straggle in with Sharkman commenting, “What part of 8:00 a.m. SHARP do they not understand!”

There was new virgin Minion in the mix by the name of Justin. Welcome to the mighty Minion Nation, Justin!

After Sharkman took a selfie, at exaclty 8:00 a.m. explaining why some of the riders were not present for the photo (because they had just pulled in!), he instructed the Nation that if an A Group did not break off at the HJ intersection, they all would ride a B Group pace.

Returning for a second Minion ride was Rick, wearing his plaid jersey, so he was given the Minion Name, Lumberjack!
Dragonfly, Dot Dot Dash and Mad Dog
enjoying the free koffee!

Riders at the start, but not mentioned so far were Easty and son, Batman, Hoosier Boy, Dragonfly, and Mark Rose who is now known as Gadget Guy!

The Nation headed out at about 8:05 a.m and rambled by the Klutch, where Andrew, decked out in his Minion kit, shouted, “Good morning Nation!” as the train rode by.

As the Nation headed north, Sharkman rode up and down the paceline pressing the flesh and doing the count of 11 riders. As the Nation approached the A Group cut off he shouted out that the B Group needed to get left and everyone went left.

So it would be one group! Just like the old day's for Sharkman!

Yeti Boy and Hoosier Boy were pulling the train and set up Sharkman to take the first, honorary sprint.

After the G crossing, Yeti Boy continued to pull, but Hoosier Boy, coming out of no where, took the next sprint. That push to the front would come back to haunt him later!
It was a great morning at the Klutch!

As the Nation headed up the col de Twin Lakes, Hoosier Boy, cranking those pedals, had one of them come off, causing him to shift right and the Nation having to go around thinking he had just come out of his clips. It turned out that his pedal had come completely off! As the Nation gathered at the col de Twin Lakes stop, Dot Dot Dash joined on, but Hoosier Boy declared he'd have to head back with a broken pedal. Interestingly, and after the Nation had continued north, Hoosier Boy realized his pedal had only come unscrewed from the crank arm and was able to get back in action. He headed counter clockwise around the lake to catch on, but thinking he had missed the group finished the course just ahead of the Nation and met everyone at the Klutch.

In the Kountry Club section the pace, as usual, picked up but for the most part, the Nation stayed together. Mad Dog put on a huge pull in the final sprint and battled it out with Justin to the Rt. 43 Stop.
Easty, Batman and Sharkman enjoying the free Koffee!

After Sharkman informed everyone that the Rt. 43 section would be a neutral zone and that the group should ride single file, new rider Justin took off and took the pace with him! Mad Dog and Batman stayed on but a few of the Nation got blown out the rear of the peloton as they made the ascent up the col de Norte.

Sharkman again reminded the Nation that it was a B Group ride and to keep the pace closer to 18-20 mph than to 23-25 mph!

Surprisingly, the group pretty much stayed together through the Holy Rollers, where Yeti Boy put on big push, barely losing that sprint to Toast who was in rare form on this misty, yet pleasant morning.

At the Inlet Sprint, Sharkman held on to Mad Dog's wheel and rode him like a rented mule to take the sprint uncontested at the end.

Sharkman tried to form up a paceline after the Digital Divide but the Nation didn't want to play. For some reason some riders seem to have a problem moving over and SLOWING so they can go back to the end of the paceline.

Mad Dog, Sharkman and Easty went to the front to try to get Dot Dot Dash to the GGG Spot Sprint, but she didn't realize it and the move fell apart. However, Dot Dot Dash did win the 50/50 drawing at the Klutch during the Banjovi Concert the previous evening! Is this a great country or what!?!

As the Nation crossed the GGG Spot Sprint, a very slight trickle of rain began to fall, making the finish more interesting!

The Nation headed south and the pace picked up!. As the Nation crested the final hill, and they were bunched up, a group led by Justin took off for the finish.

A gap opened but Toast made a move and was able to track down Justin and take him by nipping him at the line with Batman on their heels.

Gadget Guy, the man of the hour
credit card in hand!
The road leading to the Champs le Galesburg was under construction and the fans went wild when their hero's did not arrive down the fabled boulevard!

Who knew?

When the riders lined up for koffee, Andrew informed them that it had been purchased already by Mark, now known as Gadget Guy, whose left shift cable had snapped in the final sprint! Oh, the humanity!

Thanks, Gadget Guy!

Hoosier Boy was waiting at the table and all agreed it was a great ride despite the wet roads at the start!

Sharkman could only ponder how pleased he was that he had not cancelled the ride!

You won't want to miss this week's edition, when hopefully good weather returns and the Nation returns to A & B groups!

Though Sharkman did have to admit it was good to be back together again!

Nikeboy, Gazelle Girl and Toesetter
up north!
Nikeboy

Lake Leelanau, Mi. - Nikeboy and the lovely Nikegirl were at a secret northern Michigan training camp riding with friends from Trek Travel.

On a ride north out of Traverse City and around the south end of Lake Leelanau they stopped to enjoy the scenery and enjoy the view from a lakeside park. Soon, three other riders were approaching the park from a distance. Nikeboy noticed that one of the riders had a beard that could only be described as "Toesetterish", as the riders came closer the beard became "Toesetteresque", coming even closer Nikeboy realized, "Holy lightning bolts! It's Toesetter!"

Such a thought was folllowed by the realization that the lovely lass between the two men could only be Gazelle Girl. Nikeboy was so flabbergasted by the appearance ofThe Sweetheart of the Peloton (TM applied for) that he hollered out her given name, which for purposes of protecting her shall remain redacted as are all of the Minions real names. Gazelle Girl recognized the voice and retorted, "Nikeboy!"

Introductions were made and Nikeboy made the acquaintance of some English chap who owns property on the far side of Lake Leelanau, pointing out a gray barn across the water. Gazelle Girl told how she had met the bloke on a street corner (insert GG rejoinder here) during a DALMAC. Fun and merriment was had by all and our 3 wayward Minions posed for a photo near the water in a beautiful up north setting made even more beautiful byThe Sweetheart of the Peloton (TM applied for).

MINIONS AT THE SHERMANATOR!

Belo News
August 6, 2016

Shark Cove, Mi. - As dawn broke bright over the Shark Cove, our intrepid hero, the Sharkman could not be contained! Word had it that the bridge at the Eaton Plant was back open and our hero had planned to ride over and have Lava Girl pick him up at the Klutch for the return trip!

OK, So Sharkman sucks at "Selfies!"
Our hero was also pleased that not only would Stryker Guy/Cover Girl be returning to the peloton, but Dot Dot Dash reported that she would be bringing Wishbone over for koffee! Could it get any better?

Yes, it could! Due to the Shermanator, the Nation would be riding the southern route, with full sight seeing tour and $.50 per site, so Sharkman would be raking in the money! Is this a great country or what?!?

The only disappointment was the Mad Dog, Sharkman's long time wingman for the ride over, would not be in action this week! Oh, the humanity!

Sharkman took off from the Cove right on time and other than a minor run in with a peacock (you heard that right, Bunkie. There is a family with a pet peacock on Watkins Road and it jumped out in front of our hero and the old Shark almost T-Boned him. Sharkman also learned that the peacock could fly, as he took off to get out of our hero's way!), the ride over was was uneventful.

At the start there were a few new virgin Minions. A young Canadian named AJ (who will now be known as The Canuck)who found out about the ride from Stryker Guy; a friend of Dragonfly's named Lance and a friend of Brewman named Steve. Welcome to the mighty Minion Nation gentlemen!
But Sharkman was there barking
orders just like the old days!

Also, some Minions returned after being gone a while, like Buff and the ever popular Peugeot Guy, and Tan Man making his season debut!

Welcome back, gentlemen!

As start time approached, more riders continued to pour in, but no Stryker Guy, who had assured our hero that he would be in attendance!

Sharkman took some lousy photos of the start (selfies into the sun aren't easy, Bunkie!) and it was then, that Stryker Guy made has grand entrance to the start! (Taking a chapter out of the Gazelle Girl Book on “How to Make an Entrance,”). To a huge round of applause, the triumphant hero rode in to his adoring Nation to receive his well deserved slaps on the back, hugs, and handshakes in a genuine show of admiration for his accomplishment of riding across this great country!

Welcome home, Stryker Guy! So good to have you back where you belong, in the mighty Minion Nation!

Virgin Minion Lance!
Sharkman then announced the South Route, that A & B Group would need to play nice together and slow the pace a bit, and that there was no change for the $.50's for the wonderful sites he would be pointing out.

The count, which seemed to keep changing, was at 24 riders as the train left the station and worked their way past the Klutch and up to the Qman Hill. Sharkman was so busy pressing the flesh and working the crowd, he forgot to reset his bike computer to measure the ride!

The ride went very well, with Nikeboy playing sweeper at the back for the first half of the ride before peeling off, where Bissell Boy took over to watch the Lantern Rouge.

For the most part, the Nation played nice and stayed together, waiting at Stop Signs to make sure all were on.

With Sharkman pointing out Waterfalls, Cemetery's, the Railroad House, the Fairy Tree, Scotts Mill, Tall Corn (yes, you heard that right), to name just a few of the sites, the meter was running and Sharkman was having a great time!
Virgin Minion AJ, now known as
The Canuck!

As the Nation went through Scotts, and Sharkman pointed out the historic Post Office, he was counting the receipts in his head! "$.50, take a good look! No change!" was heard over and over and over, .....well, you get the drift.

As they made the turn on to the final leg of the ride, Dragonfly rode up to Sharkman reporting a mechanical. Sharkman and Bissell Boy shouted out “MECHANICAL” but the Nation was moving too fast to hear.

Dragonfly's handlebars had come completely loose and Sharkman offered his “Alien Tool” to fix it. It has been so long since our hero has done any road repair, he noticed rust on the tool, and was reminded that he has had it for almost 30 years and it may not have been out of it's sleeve in almost as long! He also noticed it weights slightly less than a small car......

After tightening down the handlebars, Bissell Boy and Sharkman led Dragonfly and Lance back to the Nation, that was not only dutifully waiting at the ML Stop Sign but had sent back a search team for group.

Sharkman shouted out safety instruction as the Nation headed back down Qman Hill, telling everyone to be careful on the fast down hill, then proceeded to jump out front with Wildman who lead our hero down into the Kalamazoo Valley!
Tan Man was back and took the tape!

After Sharkman rode Wildman's wheel for some time, he went out front but was quickly passed by Tan Man, B-Rod and a cast of thousands who wanted to take advantage of the massive descent to the finish!

As it went down to the final meters, Tan Man pulled out the win with B-Rod right on his wheel!

The crowds went wild on the Champs le Galesburg with the tofosi offering up loaves of bread, families holding up babies to be kissed and Sharkman's imagination running completely out of control!

The Klutch was rocking where Wishbone was waiting AND Easty and Katie, had brought a cake to celebrate Stryker Guys great accomplishment and also bought the koffee! Is this a great country or what?!?

Styker Guy posed for photos and autographs and Easty even gave a corner piece to the Sharkman! Oh, the humanity! Sharkman loves corner pieces of cake! More frosting, of course!

Wishbone shared his story with much of the Nation and it was so good to see him up and around and being part of the Nation once again! The group felt blessed to have him back and look forward to his return to the peloton! Big thanks to Dot Dot Dash for bringing Wishbone over for koffee and we hoping he can make regular appearances going forward!

The riders hung around the Klutch, talking, laughing, eating cake and drinking koffee for some time!
Mr. Style, Nikeboy with his orange kit!
Man that guy can style!

It was a great day to be a Shark Minion!

You won't want to miss this week's edition of the DD-TdG!

Skittles on the podium!
August 7, 2016

Rockford, Mi. - This past weekend the USAC State Championships took place at the Art Van Sports Complex on Merrell Trail in Rockford Michigan.

Our own Skittles did the Nation proud by turning in a 3rd place finish in the Expert Singlespeed Division of the State Finals! Whoa, is this a great country or what!?! Nice job Skittles, you did the nation proud.

However, on a sad note, our young hero had some extra time and decided to try out the trails at Luton Park for about 15 minutes. Unfortunately he got into a tussle with a tree after going over the handlebars and the tree won.

He fractured a couple of ribs in the action and is now home healing up.

In an interview with Belo News he commented he can hardly get out of his chair without major pain and the medical bills are murder! He also commented it was a 15 minute ride and at least a 45 minute walk out!

Oh, the humanity!

Get well soon, Skittles! The Nation will be holding a spot in the peloton for you!
