Thanksgiving Tour of New Mexico!

Sharkman Takes Santa Fe by Storm!

Santa Fe, N.M. – Happy Thanksgiving, Minions!

In an exclusive investigative report, the answer to "where is Sharkman?" has finally been answered!

Through undisclosed cycling sources, the Update has learned that Sharkman has been testing Mountain Bikes in Northern New Mexico! In these never before seen photographs, we see the Sharkman with Outside Executive Editor Sam Moutlton (also Sharkman's son-in-law and former Celebrity Rider) and former Outside Senior Editor and current Road and Mountain Bike Test Director, John Bradley.

The weather was drop dead gorgeous as the Western Chapter of the Mighty Minion Nation headed out to the Dale Ball Trails, which lay in the foothills of the mountain just outside Santa Fe.

Along with the Scott carbon fiber steed, Sharkman was also testing a Pro-Tec helmet, Bontrager shoes, along with a Pearl Izumi jacket, bib shorts, gloves and jersey, all of which he gets to keep! Is this a great Country or what?

After a long climb from town to the trail head, the riders were greeted by some of the greatest switch back single track west of the Mississippi!

Our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, had no problem handling the rugged terrain as well as the high altitude. Absorbing tips from the two Outside Editors like Wolf King absorbs Micro Brews, the Shark barrelled up the long ascent. Once the mountain was crested, the ride back down into town was nothing short of the Mad Hatter Ride at the County Fair! Fast, twisty and full of fun! Sharkman got the bike so far off the trail you could slide a credit card under his tires!

Sharkman reported that he found the Scott Carbon Fiber gave him a very compliant ride and was fantastic in handling the rocky single track. The Shimano drive train was smooth and light to the touch. The Schwabe tires had fantastic grip and all of this amounted to one sweet ride!

The Pearl Izumi was not only extremely functional, but man, did Sharkman look good! And we all know his credo, "If you can't be good....look good!" And Pearl Izumi delivers!

John Bradley was also riding a Scott Carbon Fiber (which, you techies will want to know, was bedecked with Sram's new mountain bike grupo, XX), while Sam was mounted on his trusty Gary Fischer.

Bradley stated, "it was an honor to become a Minion and ride with the Sharkman!" You just can't make this stuff up!

Sharkman was quoted as saying it was a fantastic ride and that he couldn't wait for more riding over the weekend!

What a way to spend Thanksgiving Weekend!

To all the Minions and their families, a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Unofficial Last Ride of the Season?

Bissell Boy gone fishin'

"Hot Damn"

Luke Skywalker rules

November 21, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. - As the riders assembled, wondering if their fearless leader would bring back good news from our nation’s capitol, Speedy offered his flask to the Minion Nation. “Hot Damn” was heard coming from Chumley’s mouth as he warmed his motor with a shot from the flask. (Thinking of our nation’s capitol makes the author want to drink these days). Is this a great nation or what?

Led out by All Black, ten riders started the unofficial “last ride” of the season, without our fearless leader. Rounding KK Korner we acquired Wildman sporting his Tour of Missouri kit and as we started up 36th Street Gazelle Girl and Dr. Dave joined the peloton making it 13!

Falcon led the Sharkman out for the honorary first sprint and off the pack went toward the rabid dogs encountered much of the late season racing. Danimal had his dog spray in hand as we rounded the bend but alas there were no dogs. Zickman took off like a rocket with Falcon in pursuit to take the 35th St. sprint; Falcon was not to be denied as he took the Col de Twin Lakes climb in decisive fashion. As we moved toward DE Ave. we were joined by Knute aka Knute and the sprint went uncontested.

As the pace was set down by the famous Miller Men (Luke Skywalker and Oil Man) the group stayed together through the “Pain Cave” until a gap was made by the Zickman, with Bissell Boy on his wheel. The M43 sprint was a photo finish awarded to the whyly Zickster. The group waited a considerable amount of time at the M43 stop when it was discovered Chumley and Speedy were off the back nipping the Hot Damn. It was explained later they were fixing a flat and releasing several canisters of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Falcon owned Col de Norte and was awarded the KOM jersey for the day and the peloton charged south. As we sped by the Bible Conference Oil Man was moved from above and with a quick tap of Falcon’s elbow he flew by to take the Frona’s sprint. Not to be out done Falcon was redeemed by taking the Bay sprint.

As the Minions moved down 37th street they had a hard time organizing a pace line but Gazelle Girl was awarded the G Ave sprint as the Zickman was DQ’d for undisclosed reasons.

In the final effort Luke Skywalker ruled the day taking the win on his new Pinarello, followed by Knute and Wildman.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Minion Nation and for those of you looking for a way to work off your turkey feast the last Kiss Cross race of the year is Sunday in Holland.

Ed. Note: It is rumored Sharkman may have signed with a new team for next season and started his training at a secret location in New Mexico while Bissell Boy warms up for the Bass Pro tournament season fly fishing for the famous Steelhead trout somewhere in northern Michigan.

Retro Day or Last Day?

Wolf King pulls off another win!

Bissell Boy Makes History!

Last Minion Ride of the Year, or was it?

Belo News

Galesburg, Mi.
– One more week! One more week!

It was a refrain that was heard most of Saturday morning as 13 Minions showed up to ride what might have been the last “official” Minion ride of the 2009 season.

Another fantastic weather morning greeted our intrepid hero’s as they began unloading their steeds, as well as their extra cloths. The temp was around 52 degrees at launch time and as you can see from the photo, Hossman was in retro gear at the start. Apparently his regular helmet was run over by the car. An attempt on his part to see if this was covered in the warranty revealed that Fischer Price would only replace the helmet if his head was in said helmet at the time of the accident. So, Hossman got an Igloo Cooler for a helmet. Hossman was so excited to show everyone the solid Styrofoam interior that he took it off to reveal chew marks on the Styrofoam, to which everyone was afraid to ask what that was all about. To round out his cycling attire, he was wearing a cotton long sleeve T under his Tony Jersey along with his high school wrestling sweat pants!

The start was delayed as Wolf King made several attempts to take a photo of the group. The Update is not sure if the photo came out or not because he didn’t send it to the Update BEFORE press time!

In addition to Hossman, those in attendance on this glorious morning included Bissell Boy, Sharkman and All Black in their Team Bissell kit, Just Jerry, Stroker and Hoosier Boy were back, Wolf King, Dutch, Kid Doster, Rainman, and Danimal after his appearance at the Iceman with H1N1 (What a stud!), and Gazelle Girl showed up on the way out of town. And then they were 13, a new record for late season attendance!

Our intrepid hero, the Sharkman, was led out, or should we say inspired, for the first sprint by Wolf King. Sharkman had a hard time catching on to the streaking Wolf Kings wheel, but in deference to the “Patron of the Peloton,” WK pulled off to give Sharkman the honorary stop ahead.

For the second week in a row, the Bissell Boys were at the front along with Wolf King when our new Labrador quadruped friends decided to run out to greet us. After a great deal of barking, shouting and copious amounts of water squirted from water bottles, our two new friends retreated in hopes of getting the Minions next week. However, it sure screwed up the ensuing sprint, which was sort of given to Wolf King.

The Mighty Minion nation continued through the col de Twin lakes and Kellogg Korner, when Kid Doster threw in a humongous pull before Sharkman took over. As they made the turn to head for the Rt. 43 sprint, Zickman appeared with his entourage going in the opposite direction doing his yearly run around the lake! (No, we don’t know why he does that….).

With Sharkman at the front, Wolf King made an early move, to which Bissell Boy, cutting a fine figure on his Pinarello, responded and took the Rt. 43 sprint for the second week in a row!

As the Mighty Minion Nation headed south after the climb up the col de Norte, they were greeted by a warm, but stiff head wind. Try as they might, the Minions didn’t seem to want to play together and a pace line never really formed up. The sprinters went early on the Bible Conference Hills, where Rainman went out to take the C Ave. sprint going away.

All Black and Wolf King fought it out alone for the Inlet Sprint, with Wolf King edging out the wily All Black.

As is the norm, the peloton grouped up at the Rt. 89 crossing and quickly formed up a double pace line at Sharkman insistence. As they moved south, Gazelle Girl complained that since the wind was out of the southwest, the peloton was rotating in the wrong direction. Gazelle Girl was actually able to get this crew of pace line challenged riders to reverse the direction of rotation in mid-pace line! An incredible feat of nature! Go Girl!

This was just a bit of the Gazelle Girl magic, as she worked the rotation to her benefit. As the Mighty Minion Nation headed toward the G Ave. sprint, Gazelle Girl took over and swept the sprint up like, well….a Gazelle! Just like the early season, Gazelle Girl OWNS the G Ave. sprint!

As our Minions headed south to the finish, Sharkman, Hossman and Stroker took up the early lead out. No one wanted to play in the pace line and so the Minions just let the three lead out. Sharkman later stated that as they approached the final hill to the finish he looked in his mirror and saw hordes of Minions descending on his wheel like a “Plague of Locust!”

As the school of sharks reached the final hill, Stroker made a move and immediately realized he had moved to soon and after findingt himself at the front alone was heard to say, “I’m screwed……”

It was then that Rainman made a huge jump to the front and as he ramped up the speed with a shift to the big gear, his chain skipped and Wolf King, Bissell Boy, Dutch and others saw there chance to jump as he lost momentum. It was pretty obvious that had Rainman not experienced the miss shift; he would have been very hard to catch.

In one of the closer sprint finishes of the year, with all 13 Minions in the mix, Wolf King edged out Bissell Boy while Dutch filled out the final podium spot!

It was Bissell Boy’s first podium finish and the crowds went wild as he coasted in on his carbon steed!

With the great weather, the fans were lined 4 to 5 deep along the Champs le Galesburg as the Minions zipped up their jerseys for the sponsors.

The Klutch was rocking when the Minions appeared for the press conference and the paparazzi lined up to talk to Bissell Boy on his late season form.

The major talk centered on what a great season it has been and that no one wanted the season to end. Immediately, the shouts of “One more week, one more week!” were heard through out the Klutch.

So, the Minions will ride another week! It might be without the Sharkman, but there will be a ride for anyone who shows!

Launch Time – 9:00 A.M. – SHARP!

Be there for the final edition!

Sooner a Celebrity Rider?

Wolf King Wins A Close One!

Last Minion Ride of the Year This Week!

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
November 7, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – It is now official. The National Weather Service has declared October the wettest, coldest October…..ON RECORD! And the Minions can attest to that. But what a change November has been. Saturday morning was drop dead gorgeous for the Might Minion Nation and this Saturday is looking good for the last ride of the year!

Ten Minions showed to ride and immediately began peeling the extra cloths off as they exited there cars in the parking lot to get their steeds ready.

Sooner was back for the first time since before Labor Day and immediately asked for “Celebrity Rider” status, which was abruptly denied by the Sharkman. Wolf King, Bissell Boy, All Black, Wildman, Dutch and Hossman filled out the regular Minion roster, while a new Minion was welcomed to the peloton.

A big welcome to Tom, who came with Wildman and was immediately named Coffeeman for his ability to actually roast his own coffee beans! You gotta love a biker who roasts his own beans!

Welcome Coffeeman!

The sun was shining and everyone was complaining about not being on the bike in a while and being out of shape as the sound of pedals clicking in rang around the parking lot. As the peloton moved north, they made the old Sharkman work to take the honorary first sprint of the morning. For a bunch of riders claiming to be out of shape, the ride ended up being pretty quick for this late in the season.

After a minor dog attack after the G Ave. crossing, it looked like an all Team Bissell attack on the second sprint of the morning, with All Black, in his Bissell Kit edging out Bissell Boy for the second sprint. It might have also been the dogs coming after the two on their way to the stop ahead sign. Bissell Boy and All Black were on fire on this fine day!

As the Minion Nation moved towards the col de Twin lakes, they were joined by Knute, AKA Knute, and the peloton was now 10!

The speed picked up through the Country club section with Sharkman pulling the group through Kellogg Korner, where Bissell Boy took over through the Country Club. Bissell Boy threw in a humongous pull until Sharkman took over and led out the lean, mean Bissell Boy to take the Rt. 43 sprint easily.

The group stayed together on the east side of the lake after Wolf King made an early attack on the col de Norte, only to be sucked in before the summit by the entire peloton. As the Nation moved south, Wolf King knocked off the C Ave. sprint while All Black, who was required to take a drug test after the race due to his unexpected energy level, took the Inlet sprint.

After the Rt. 89 crossing, and as the south wind picked up, the peloton formed up into one of the better working pace lines of the season. The line worked so well that the C Ave. Sprint was not really contested as everyone was saving something for the final sprint.

After the G Ave. crossing, the pace line picked up again but as Sharkman and Hossman took over, they opened a small gap and it took a while for the peloton to pull through. As the mighty Minion Nation crested the final hill the descent to the finish.

No one seemed to want to move too quickly, too early, keeping the peloton closely packed (where is Bullet Bob when you need him?!) as they moved closer to the finish. It was then that Wolf King, Knute, Dutch, Wildman and Bissell Boy began to accelerate with a cast of thousands on their wheels.

In a close finish, Wolf King took the top spot with Knute and Dutch filling out the podium with Wildman a very close fourth.

The fans went wild on the Champs le Galesburg and into the Klutch, where everyone gathered for the post race press conference and Koffee.

It was decided during the post race festivities that this coming weekend, November 14, 2009 would be the final end of the Official Minion Season, and what a season it has been! Starting the second weekend in March and going until the second weekend in November with very few rain or snow outs, has been outstanding and it has truly been a great season.

You won’t want to miss the last ride of the year as it is predicted to be around 60 again this Saturday.

Launch Time 9:00 A.M. – SHARP!

Who Showed and Who Rode!

Seven Minions Showed in the Rain!

Do Minions Start in the Rain?

Sharkman's New Jersey!

Belo News
Galesburg, Mi.
October 31, 2009

Galesburg, Mi. – Hard to believe, but seven crazy Minions showed up to ride on Saturday!
When everyone left their respective Shark Cove beds, the roads were dry and riding looked like a distinct possiblity. Unfortunately, on the way to the start, Mother Nature again decided to rain on the Mighty Minion Nation's parade around their Field of Dreams called, the KK-TdG. After such a great season, it has been a sad state of affairs the past few weeks as the season winds down and so does the rainfall.

As the Sharkman pulled into the parking lot, it didn't take much convincing to get Bissell Boy, Zickman, Brewman, Kid Doster, Hossman and Wolf King to head to the Klutch for Koffee as he talked to the wet Minons from his Shark Car.

Sharkman was particularly upset as he was debuting his new Shark Jersey that a few of the Minions pitched in to buy him for his Birthday. (see photo) Thanks Minions! Bissell Boy and Cloud Girl had the idea for retro jersey with Sharkman stitched on the front and back in red, and Tahitian blue sleeves to match the Shark blue, and deadly eyes of our intrepid hero. Fantastic jersey!

The Koffee was great, as was he discussion. Many will be at the Ice Man this weekend, but others still voted to ride.

The weather is not looking good for this weekend, but if it is dry, launch time will be at
9:00 A.M. - SHARP!
